Cal poly slo fall 2017 transfer thread

@squirtlesquirtle when I went to SLO last summer they said to be in that range to be competitive since business is one of their most popular majors. I had a friend apply and get in with a 3.4 last fall however so I guess every year is different.

@schneybley I applied to SDSU for accounting. I’m from NorCal but I didn’t hear anything about them preferring local students unless you mean CCC vs. OOS.

No actually like most CSU’s there is a huge division between local and non-local applicants. As in the community colleges in their service area are given much higher priority and it really burns some people who have 3.9 GPA’s and still get rejected while some with 2.5 GPA’s get in. I know somebody who did transfer there after getting denied to Cal Poly so it is possible but if you look at the 2016 SDSU transfer thread you will see what I’m talking about.

@schneybley Specific ECs don’t mean anything to CSUs because there’s nowhere to explain them on the application.

I think for Cal Poly they mean something. I don’t know how much but something. Cal Poly is a little different from other CSU’s

Well it’s not the end of the world if that’s the case. Most CSUs I applied to aren’t far from me and SDSU is the only one for me that’s “far away” I guess.

@schneybley How will admissions know what your EC’s are before they conditionally accept you and request your transcripts?

A difficult question. All I can say is that during your initial application there was a supplemental portion that allowed you to elaborate a little on EC’s.

@schneybley When I filled out the supplemental portion of my application, it only asked for number of hours of activities and a single yes/no to leadership. What more did you see?

That is all there is for EC. Hours and yes/no leadership. At no point do they ask for specifics.

You know I gotta say I thought this thread was buzzing but I just saw the USC transfer 2017 thread and it’s literally over a hundred pages long, spanning back to July. The year before that it ended and like 380 pages. It’s amazing how some threads get an insane amount of activity while others are so little.

What’s everyone thinking? This week for transfers?

@Asamuels I sure hope so. I’d rather know right away even if I was denied versus stressing until March or so. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey! I’m applying from De Anza too. Here are my stats:

Major: Forestry and Natural Resources
GPA: Overall 3.77, De Anza College specifically 3.85 (I transferred from another college) Major GPA is probably closer to a 4.0
Major prep: Basically done but I might be missing one class
IGETC: Will be completed by Spring 2017
ECs: Volunteer at Full Circle Farm, President and founder of Artists for the Environment, an environmental art club at De Anza College. I am an intern for DASB’s Environmental Sustainability Committee. I also served as the secretary of the Anthropology Club for two quarters and am a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. I am the recipient of multiple scholarships

That comes out to 5-10 hours a week of extra curricular activities and I have worked as many as 30 hours a week while paying my way through school.

I don’t know that I honestly have a good shot. I think a large majority of applicants to Cal Poly are this competitive or more competitive and man am I stressing myself out waiting for a decision.

Do you guys think its worth checking the portal tomorrow even though it’s a holiday or should I just hold off until Tuesday?

@dancergirl17 I mean its worth a shot, but it most likely won’t be up. That being said - I know I will probably check at least once haha

I’d bet on Thursday being when transfer decisions start being posted to the portal. Just my feeling.

Maybe Tuesday. You never know, but I hope everyone, including myself, gets IN!

JUST GOT ACCEPTED, everyone check!!
