Cal poly slo fall 2017 transfer thread

@hberry I applied for EIGHT schools and this wasn’t my number one choice until literally a week ago. In fact, I applied on a whim just because my cousin lives there and suggested it. I had no intention of applying to this school (and was not interested in attending) until November 28th. I can read directions perfectly fine and I know exactly what it is they are asking. Of course I am happy for those who got accepted. My bone to pick is not with them. I simply disagree with the selection process utilized by Cal Poly. There is so much about each of these students they will never know (that could be extremely pertinent to the benefit and unique perspective that they might offer to the school) because they don’t ask. The fact that they use a similar selections criteria to the other CSUs when they are far more prestigious and selective simply doesn’t make sense imo. They should adopt something more holistic that is akin the UC Berkeley’s strategy.

@mysticalforest, I have to agree with @hberry. If you get accepted to SLO, even with your high GPA, you got really lucky. This isn’t apples to apples, but Berkeley Haas is super strict about major reqs for Bus Admin. I didn’t even bother applying b/c I was missing English 1A, since I got transfer credit through a 3 on an AP Exam. Berkeley Haas doesn’t take 3s or IGETC for Bus Admin, but they take IGETC for Econ, so I did that instead. If you have a major req, like English 1A missing, your application is pretty much thrown out of the window for Haas.

Heck, I thought I was a little lucky getting into SJSU b/c I was missing a basic computer course that’s 4 units at my CC, but only 1 unit over there. I didn’t want to fit it into my schedule, since I’m already at 17 semester units.

Don’t give up home, man.

EDIT: Plus, the computer course isn’t necessary for some CSUs, so it’s weird. SLO doesn’t ask for CIS 002. I just checked Assist right now, so if I do get rejected, it might be because I took regular Calculus, not Applied Calculus.

I hope you applied for Berkeley because I heard that they have a good Forestry and Natural Resources program.

@TheLongRun Well I figured why not apply as I am an EOPS student and got 4 application fee waivers for the UC and another 4 for the CSU. In that case, I felt like it couldn’t hurt to apply to as many schools as possible and see where the chips fall. I’ve already been accepted to 3 schools and I’m missing some major prep for all of them, but they all have my official transcripts at this point and know what I’ve taken and haven’t taken.

I’m 24 and am a nontraditional student as I am a cancer survivor. I have been in and out of school for years. I just cannot take staying another year at community college trying to tie up every loose end for every school. I am just ready to get a degree and have a job.

Since Berkeley was brought up, for any business majors that applied to Cal and are waiting for SLO, I’d suggest joining the Haas 2017 thread while you wait.

@TheLongRun I applied for Berkeley’s Conservation and Resource Studies major. Thing is, I used to live in Berkeley and honestly didn’t enjoy the atmosphere as it is very intense. Tbh, I’d rather go to CSUMB which already accepted me into their environmental program. I hate to say that, as I know Berkeley is much more prestigious. I just don’t know if I’ll be happy there, but I won’t make any official decisions until April 28th when I hear from Berkeley. I might feel differently.

@TheLongRun I took Calc 1 instead of applied calculus as well as a business major. I called and they said that although assist says they want applied calc, SLO’s selection criteria gives the option of either

@bayernriemen I can’t believe i just saw that you got admitted for Kinesiology considering I check this forum all the time. Anyway, congratulations!! Just curious to know where else you applied for Kinesiology. I’ve only heard back from CSULB and I’m pretty sure that’s only because I’m in the area for that school. Have you heard back from anywhere else?

@Jaximus I wouldn’t give up though, you very well still could get accepted. I don’t think they’re done alerting students yet. Though I know I’ve been pessimistic, I really think there’s still time for us. I just think they tend to favor students who have major prep done over students that simply have a high GPA. But even in that case, they’re still too selective to accommodate everyone who has met their requirements fully. At least I would assume so.

Yeah I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t discouraged but Im not hopeless

On their login page it says “PolyPlanner and PeopleSoft HCM (Student & HR Administration) Production Maintenance Outage: Wednesday 8pm- midnight”

@kk456 I saw that as well. Maybe they’re shutting down the system so they can load everyone’s decisions in to send them out at once!

… or then again the constant refreshing and logging in everyone is doing to see if they got in could be messing with the system.

Meh. :-w

More acceptance letters are going to be released? Cause most freshmen got accepted after the maintenance last week, which it was Thursday morning. I assume it is going to release more admission decisions after that duration. Let’s hope for more acceptances on Thursday morning till afternoon, Everyone!

since the maintenance ends at midnight, what if a lot of decisions are posted right when it ends…?

Cmon SLO, I just want to know where I’m going to spend the next two years of my life!!!

Do they determine our admissions off of last semesters grades also?

@cm12356 They do not consider your Fall 2016, or Spring/Summer 2017 grades.

@cm12356 they didn’t ask for an update in January, so they won’t know your fall/spring grades until you send your transcripts in May (if you get in).

On that subject, if you were to get all C’s this semester, they wouldn’t rescind you right?

any CS majors get admitted yet? The suspense is truly killing me since I see all of you getting your acceptance notifications.

@justinmega1 C’s are okay as long as you don’t get a C-. Here’s the link for the terms and conditions: https://admissions.calpoly.edu/admitted/tterms
