I’ve been accepted to both Cal Poly and SDSU for their business programs and was wondering which one I should go for. Both gave me the same amount of money and I like both equally (although SDSU has better food). I want to do something with business and I don’t know which school to pick. Thank you!
What type of Business are you hoping for?
Cal Poly excels at Accounting, Information Systems and variants ofPackaging, while in addition to solid accounting/CPA prep and Finance, SDSU tends to have more emphasis on Marketing and more consumer-facing business topics.
Because of location, it will be easier to do internships during the school year at SDSU.
No bad choice between the two schools. Sounds like it will come down to your personal preference of location and social scene. As @hop mentioned do you have specific area of Business you are interested in pursuing?. SDSU also has a great International Business program if you are leaning that way.
I’m leaning towards management but I applied general business because I have no clue what to do. I don’t want to do international business because I can only say Hola, but I am down to do whatever type of business there is. I heard that CalPoly has better connections with silicon valley, whereas San Diego has better connections with local businesses, are those true? Thank you both! @Gumbymom @hop
@seattlekid2484: I would look at the career center websites so see what employers recruit from each campus. SLO being closer to the Bay Area and Silicon Valley might have better recruiting for that area but SDSU has a very strong alumni network (more local) and they offer an mentorship program. Just because you attend SDSU does not mean you cannot get internships or jobs in Silicon Valley/Bay area and visa versa.
Academically, they are both really good. SDSU has more total students and a much different business climate than SLO so, if you want to live/work in SD after you graduate, it is probably easier if you study in SD. That very difference is what makes SLO so attractive to so many students. Most people find it tough to live/work in a bucolic place like the central coast - Having 4 years before you grow up in paradise while you study, is appealing . Lots of big companies from all over the country recruit on both campuses. People do head to LA/SD and the SF Bay area for internships. and careers.
