Cal students-When is everyone attending CalSO?

Wow. This is confusing. I tried to call them yesterday and got a voicemail. I’ll try again today and post their response. I thought that the $110 included board (like dreakol says) but I don’t see anything about it on their website.

I emailed CalSO and they said the program does not include an overnight stay. It’s only from 7:30 am to 7pm. So the $110 does not include room and board for the night.

That’s correct. The overnight program is for the night before and that is just to accommodate people who are too lazy to wake up earlier than 7 to drive over. There isn’t an overnight program AFTER calso is over.

Anyone do the online advising thing yet? It’s pretty trippy… literally explains EVERYTHING.

Oh man, I don’t know how I am going to afford the plane ticket + hotel. The last flight on Jet Blue goes out at like 5pm. Man, this sucks. I need to register for my last pre-req and don’t want to chance it being full if I skip CalSO. $^%^&&

Kc- maybe you could apply for a fee waiver for CalSO? Unless you’ve already received a reduced fee.

“If you are not eligible for a Pell grant or need an additional fee waiver, please send an email to Roseanne Fong at rfong@berkeley.edu explaining your situation (include your full name and student ID number). All requests are reviewed individually and confirmed with the Financial Aid Office before determinations are made.”

kc…where are u flying from? Southwest has really good deals on their flights right now…also I don’t think u have to pay for calso until later… in the past calso billed students in their CARS account & it wasn’t due until August when all your fees are updated, then if you have F/A it just pays it w/ all of your fees when the Fall semester starts. I’m not sure if they are still doing it that way now though.

Oh my gosh you guys, I am SO happy! The CalSO office was able to verify my hardship and is allowing me to attend the So Cal program on June 19th! I love Berkeley so much already. Everyone that I have come into contact with has been so accommodating! GO BEARS!

wait…what? i would have put money on the fact that they provided room and board the day of your CalSo. do they just do it for freshman?

EDIT: inside the CalSO FAQ:8. “If I don’t intend to stay in the residence halls during the CalSO program, is there a reduced program fee?”

“Unfortunately, there is no separate fee for attendees who do not stay in the residence halls. All accommodations are single-sex, except for parents and guests attending the program as a couple, who will be assigned to the same room. Many CalSO attendees end up staying in touch with their CalSO roommates after the program is over.”

plus this question…

“I am attending CalSO with a friend who’s also an incoming student. Can we share a room during CalSO?”

“Rooms are assigned when you check-in at CalSO. If you and your friend visit the housing check-in table at the same time, you may request to be roommates during the program.”

edit: man… i just called…they dont do it for transfer students.

Dreakol-Maybe that only applies to freshmen. I noticed that their program fee is over $200.

i think the freshman program is a 2 day program, so they would need to stay the night.

July 2nd for Haas. =)

@Loski-

Do you know which cohort you’re in for Haas this summer? I got the Tu/Thurs one, which is gold I think.

I have the gold cohort aswell, Tue/Thurs. I went to haas yesterday to drop off my passport photos and signed policy statement. It’s a nice little section of the campus. I’m excited to start. Wanna meet up at Calso?

Yeah, sure! Send me a PM or something. Haas is really nice- I was up there looking around last week. Everyone in the office seemed pretty cool as well.

June 11th.
