calc/placement question....

if i got a 4 on the calc ab test do i need to take the placement exam during orientation....?

http://www.math.ucla.edu/undergrad/apcredit.html

since you received a 4 and get out of calc and Math 31A you don't need to take it.

off orientation website:

"MATH DIAGNOSTIC EXAMINATION

Students planning to enroll in Math 1, 3A, or 31A for Fall Quarter must take the departmental diagnostic examination."

even i plan on majoring in econ?

hmm...i think you're still exempt from the examination even if you're an econ major, but i'm not sure. This website may help
http://www.econ.ucla.edu/undergrad/

you can jump straight into Math 31B (the next level of calc). this goes for everyone, including econ majors.

it says that for econ majors 31a is a requirement...if i passed calc ab with a 4 and therefore waive 31a did i satisfy that? THANKS

Yes. It's the same thing with Electrical Engineering(or all engineering majors for that matter). Math 31a is a requirement, but since i got a 5 on Calc AB i'll go directly into math 31B. Getting a 4 or 5 satisfies the requirement for this major. And like Electrical Engineering your 4 will satisfy the Math 31A that is required for your major (economics). So you can go directly into Math 31B.

hey what happens if you get a 3 of the AP calc exam and your not a math major? should u go to 31B with the diagnositc test or stick with 31A without it?

does your major require math (besides statistics)? if so, then you can go straight to 31B. the diagnostic really has a maximum placement of 31A, so only if you feel not confident about your calc score should you take the diagnostic to place yourself in 31A. i think if you dont take it and you have to take math, you'll be only allowed to enroll in 31B.

if your major doesnt require math, then you're done.
