Calc Placement Test

E-Schoolers who had no calculus before take APMA 109, but 109 is not required for any degree.

132 is also one of the most failed classes at UVA; it apparently has to do with people placing into it and not being properly prepared for what college calc is like/thinking they can get an A with no work and then promptly failing the first test. 121 is a LOT easier, you should go for that if you will have no need for math after calc I+II.

Calc 132 is not one of the most failed courses at UVA. In fact, the grades given in it aren't even particularly below average (especially for the math department!). I will say, though, that it's a ton of pure b!tchwork that's probably a waste of your time if you were good at BC calc and have solid algebra/problem solving skills. Not that higher level math classes don't have lots of b!tchwork, but at least it's newer material.

If I decide to go with Business, how do I know if I should be in 121 or 122? I had a good foundation of Calc in my IB Math class, but it wasn't enough for the AP test.

Just do 121. It's easy and you should be able to get an A without too much work.

im gonna have to object from all of my friends' reports on their test averages. not them, their entire class. my friend who's doing an astrophysics major (obviously, a smart girl) only managed to get a B. and really, she knows what she's doing. she said her tests were 2 hours worth of problems in one hour, and only one kid did consistently well, out of her entire huge class. ive taken 3 math classes now and none of them have been graded like that at all. our tests have been take home or a fair amount of problems, and i got the graded that i had studied for. cav you're obviously a smart kid from the posts i've read, but you have to remember that you're probably at the top of the pool at uva and that you should address how the majority of people do and not just overachievers/geniuses.

hazelorb, check out thecourseforum.com to see grade distributions in calc 2. Most sections are AT LEAST in the "B-" range, with very few failures (although plenty of C's and D's). That's not too bad as math classes go. If you want to see true suffering, look through some e-school grade distributions.
