I have a question .. I received a 5 on my AP Calculus AB exam and I'm doing engineering in Binghamton. They require Calc 1 and Calc 2. But I don't remember most of the calculus basics, so I want to take Calc 1 again just to refresh my memory. Would I lose my AP Calc AB credit if I decide to take Calc 1?

Just in case I don't do so well in Calc 1 ...
Does the Calc 1 grade get factored in my GPA, or even give me credit hours?

i don't know about watson specifically, but in general, i think that if you got ap credit for a course you can't take it. have you checked your dars report? does it already show you having been given credit for having taken calc 1 (because of the ap).

here is info from calc 1 screening test info site (no one can register for calc 1 without taking screening test) The Screening Test FAQ

I have a score of X on the AP Calculus YZ test. Do I need to take the Screening Test?
Answer: All students who want to take Math 221 must take the Screening Test.

If your AP score satisfies the University's requirements for Math 221 credit then you will be given credit for Math 221 and you may not take Math 221, so you do not need to take the Screening Test. The University policies for AP credit are different for the different schools of the University; here are some details for Harpur College, Watson School and School of Management.

you really should contact the watson advising office -- they will be able to give you a definitive answer.

There is two things you can do. Take away the AP credit, then take the class normally. Or keep the AP credit and take the class, you wont get any credit for it, it wont count in your gpa, you will get a grade that shows on your transcript though. The only useful thing is refreshing your memory. You will not get credit. You can check for yourself at watson advising, I have already had to talk to them about it, thats how i no. However i no longer am doing engineering, moving over to harpur for Econ. Good luck.
