Caldwell Fellows vs Goodnight Scholars Program

I know the differences between the amount of scholarship but I do not know any personal experiences between the two program. I really want to be in a program that promotes leadership which both of these does. In my own opinion based on viewing these program in the website, the Caldwell Fellows seem more fun than the Goodnight scholars because they go to more sites. I could be wrong but I want to join a program to meet new friends long term because I will be going into NC State as a transfer sophomore. If someone have any personal experiences with either the program it will be greatly appreciated.

Hello, current Goodnight Scholars here. Every year the program gives scholars opportunities to travel to great places such as Vancouver, Boston, and to join service trips around North Carolina and abroad. I have amazing transfer friends in the program, and they enjoy the close-knit community and opportunity that the program provides. Every month we have numerous Goodnight events where you explore the cultural events around Raleigh, talk to the faculty members in the faculty dinner, and volunteer in local non-profit together with fellow scholars. Those activities allow me to form new friendships that make college life at NC State more meaningful. Oh did I also talk about the enrichment grant?

Okay I have a question on that. Do you guys have like a separate dorms like the honors program? Also could you explain to me the process of the application? Particular how was the interview process?

You can live anywhere on or off campus; there is no particular dorm for Goodnight Scholars. Here is the link that will give you detailed information on how to apply as a transfer: https://goodnight.ncsu.edu/apply/transfer/. Once you apply and qualify as a finalist, you will be invited to attend the interview day at Hunt Library. During that day, you will get to know NC State and Goodnight Scholars community, and you will then take the interview. Each interview is unique for each person, but one advice that always resonates on that day is just to be yourself. Good luck with your application!

Hi! i was just admitted into the Caldwell Fellows. Caldwell is a lot more centered around your impact on campus/the surrounding community during your first year at NC State, as you apply during your first year. It is largely based on the principles surrounding servant leadership- even though Caldwell doesn’t give as large of a scholarship in comparison to other programs, they offer a lot in the ways of leadership development. I also really enjoy the fact that they provide a stipend for experiential learning, which gives me the opportunity to engage in activities I wouldn’t have the means to otherwise. The community is amazing! Everyone is very humble, down to earth, and genuinely passionate about making the world a better place. Having the opportunity to join the Caldwell Fellows has truly made my experience that much better at NC State.

All in all, I also have friends who are Goodnights who love that program as well. I think you’ll have amazing opportunities regardless which of the programs you apply for. I will say, you probably want to apply for Goodnight first as you’ll be unable to apply for Caldwell until next year. Good luck in all your endeavors!
