california community colleges!

im a senior in hs, and i'm worried about attending a community college next year.

what if i aim for berkeley/davis...but i get rejected from both, and i didn't meet the requirements for other UCs or something crazy like that. then what happens to me?

can i always transfer to a CSU? or do they completely different requirements?

basically, is it common for people to go to a CC with goals of transferring somewhere, and then ending up transferring nowhere?

I've been accepted to SFSU, but i have my heart set on berkeley or davis. what do i do....

Don't worry too much. Do you best to get the highest gpa, and be president of some clubs, you will get into UCB. My fd got 3.8 gpa and was the president of math club, and she got into UCB. Even if you're not president of clubs, you can still get into UC with good gpa.

Transfer to CSU from cc is so easy, they even send you some flyers to urge you to apply them. Some of my friend didn't want to write personal statement and transferred to Cal Poly.

Some CCCs have transfer agreement programs (TAP) with select UCs. I don't think Cal participates in this program but it is pretty popular with UC Davis. Talk to a counselor at your CC and they can explain the program. In short, you sign an agreement with a prospective UC and if you meet the requirements of the agreement you are pretty much guaranteed admission. Many of my CCC friends did this for Davis.

Davis accepts most people w/ 3.0 and even has a guaranteed acceptace program. Berk is kinda tough. Most people get into admitted from CC to uc. UC like cc students a lot.

talk to a counselor at the local community college and find out which community colleges have transfer agreements with which UCs.

i dont know about where you live but here in the bay area we have 3 or more community colleges all in the same area and they have different transfer agreements so i basically had my choice of which to go to. i chose mine before i even knew what a transfer agreement was.

the transfer GPA required for my school's transfer agreement with UCSD is 2.8 but the the average transfer gpa is 2.9, so if you have a 3.0 or 3.1 i dont really see why one would need to go out of their way to do the transfer agreement requirements

ask a counselor and take it all in!
