Need help finding merit based scholarships for any CSU schools.

The CSUs (and UCs) don’t generally play the merit scholarship game.

If you are in-state, the CSUs will help you out financially via low in-state tuition, rather than merit scholarships.

If you are out-of-state, then the CSUs don’t want you unless you are prepared to fully pay the expensive out-of-state rate, thereby helping to subsidize the low in-state rate.

You would be more likely to find merit scholarships at schools in smaller states that need to provide financial incentives to attract highly qualified applicants. For example, check out the Regents and Amigo scholarships at the University of New Mexico: https://scholarship.unm.edu/scholarships/non-resident.html

ok, thank you for your help! I really appreciate it!

There are a few.

Just examples. If there’s a comprehensive list somewhere, I haven’t found it yet. Bottom line is that only a small percentage of CSU students get merit scholarships, but they do exist for highly qualified applicants. Usually these will be students who could have gotten into many or most of the UC’s.

As an OOS applicant since your other thread states you are from Texas, you should not expect any merit aid and or need-based aid from any California public schools (Cal states and UC’s). Also with your stats, it would be difficult to find any California private schools that would meet your need since you stated you are looking for close to a full ride since your parents may be able to contribute $15K.

I suggest you look to your Texas in-state options and come to California for a job or graduate school.

Ohh, I missed that the question was asked in an out-of-state context. Yeah, no.

If you truly want to move westward from Texas, look at public U’s in Utah. At Utah State, for example, your stats will discount tuition by 40% for the first two years, and it only takes one year to establish residency, which would bring the main campus into your price range.

You’d still need to either overspend for the first year ($19K COA for one year), or start at one of the cheaper branch campuses, or take a gap year to establish residency; but it’s doable if relocating is a priority for you.

(Theoretically, once a Utah resident, you’d be eligible for the WUE program, and could transfer to a bunch of the CSU’s or UC Merced at the WUE rate. But the total out-of-pocket for any CSU under that program is going to be double your proposed $15K budget… which is better than the OOS rate which is triple your budget, but still unaffordable.)
