Call from UCLA Rep?

4.0 with TAP. no call here. i believe we can still apply even without the call?

I have 4.0 no tap.

i think anyone can apply.

I spoke to Joyce (she was the rep) about it. I asked her how decisions were made and she said that it was not like regents which is “more by the numbers” and rather they selected “well rounded applicants.” She also said this years pool was larger than usual and that there would only be 34 people chosen for the scholarship.

@Ejdeha what’s your major?

mech eng 3.93
no TAP
no call
and u guys are familiar with how good my stats are. *** UCLA :(

I have a 4.0 GPA, and I received the letter about the Regents Scholarship. I haven’t heard from the UCLA rep about this Alumni Scholarship. Like Whatasunnyday mentioned, perhaps the pool for this scholarship is a lot more selective than for the Regents Scholarship.

Is any UCLA applicant able to apply to this scholarship, or is it by invitation only? Thx.

4.0, pretty good ec’s, philosophy majors. No call. Hm…

I think it may be a matter of what you checked on the application. (the keywords for scholarship thing). Along with a high GPA, as my call mentioned a merit scholarship.

That’s a good point, Rpicton. Perhaps they are still in the process of making phone calls…?

Not sure. But just for reference, here’s what I checked:

Scholarships
Ethnicity, national origin, or religion
-Descendent of Italian immigrant
-European descent
-Irish descent
Miscellaneous
-Extensive community service involvement or volunteer experience
-Participates in extracurricular activities
-Student who has demonstrated academic excellence as well as leadership in extracurricular activities
-Will work while in college
-Working part-time
School or geographic affiliation
-California born
-California community college transfer

Are all of you guys 1st gen students? maybe they’re only calling 1st gens with good stats?

I’m not.

Oh, and the call was NOT automated.

I’m a 1st generation student, IHateCeltics.

By the way, I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask, but does anyone know how competitive the Regents Scholarship is? I sent my application (along with the essay and letter of recommendation) but I was wondering if anyone knows how easy/difficult it is to receive the Regents Scholarship. Thx!

Hiroshi66

I think about 330 transfers apply and 33 get it.

I got the ~33 from the top of my head. I believe someone on this thread explained it a couple of years ago but I can’t find it.

@hellostranger

I’m an anthro major

@hiroshi: i believe 100 students get the regents every year (including freshman AND transfers). i don’t know how many are reserved for transfers, but i would assume that it is less than 50.

Thank you for the information, Rpicton and IHateCeltics.

I was invited to the Regents scholarship last year (but declined to the university) and knew several other people that were invited as well. The website stated that 150 transfer students were invited and out of those 50 would be selected.

Also, the rep did not state how people were chosen (I asked) and I am not a first generation college student.
