I don’t have any older friends to ask about the best off-campus housing for UT freshmen, so I thought CC would be my next best option. I was just wondering what you all thought about would be the best fit for off-campus dorming for me. I’ll be a freshman next year studying engineering. I don’t plan on being in a sorority so I’d like to stay somewhere where not being a part of greek life doesn’t make me feel isolated in my own home.
I love the look of Callaway but somebody told me mainly guys stay there. For SRD and Hardin I feel like they’re a little too old for me and too sorority-saturated. Let me know your experiences! Thanks.
Hardin will be totally Greek, SRD somewhat less so but still highly Greek. Callaway is going to have a lot of Greeks as well.
Why are you set on off-campus housing for your first year? Honors, Duren, or Kinsolving (Kinsolving used to have an engineering study group) are well-located for your classes and reasonably quiet, although in Duren it can be a little harder to get to know people because of the suite-style setup.
I was an engineering major, totally not into sororities, but I loved living at SRD. My first day there, I met another “independent,” and we roomed at SRD our next three years of school. It’s a beautiful dorm, and the food and swimming pool are wonderful!
