Hey y’all, I need to decide between living in SRD or Callaway next year as I will need to sign a pre-lease form for Callaway in the next week or two if I decide to live there. I know a lot of the pros and cons of both, I would just really like a little bit more perspective from other who have experience with either of these two dorms. For me the pros of Callaway are: closer to the business school, closer to many sororities, possibility of my own room, kitchenette attached, more modern facilities, and that it’s larger. The pros of SRD are: many many sorority girls, I’ve heard it has better food, and just the reputation of SRD as a whole. I’m really torn right now. I don’t know anyone else going to UT right now, even though I’m in state, because my small private school doesn’t send many people. I’m definitely planning on rushing. If y’all have any advice please help! Thanks!!
I can’t help you much, but I can tell you I loved living at SRD for four years! It’s just a beautiful dorm, and I hear that the food is as good now as it was when I lived there ('80-'84). Girls have such an affection for the dorm that there’s a reunion every fall. One of these years, I want to get to Austin that time of year so I can attend it!
Is cost a factor? Because Callaway House is a lot more expensive than SRD. My daughter is a freshman living at SRD and she loves it there. It’s a beautiful place and the food is awesome, and we love the security. Can you go to Austin and visit both places before making your decision?
Hey,
I’m only a junior in HS but I’ve always wanted to go to UT (it’s my top school) and I actually went there for a program this summer and stayed at Callaway for 3 weeks.
The food was not good at all in my opinion (at least compared to what I expected). The location is pretty good though. If you’re going to the Business school it’s like a 10 minute walk probably. But the worst part of Callaway is by far the elevators. They were super slow and always packed with long lines to get on, and this was only during the summer. My friends and I would often go up this “hidden” elevator to the 3rd floor of the parking garage to try and get on the main elevators, and we would still have to push people and squeeze ourselves in there because it was so jam-packed. I can’t imagine how bad it would be when school is actually in session. Also, yeah Callaway is on the same street as many frat/sorority houses. Hope this helped.
Just a little update, I chose Callaway just due to the fact that I liked the size, location, and the fact that it was coed better!
