Calling all 2008 Transfers!

ok then I meant have your application in ASAP. I think the first day for spring transfer admissions is September 15th.

I go to De Anza College (CCC) and I've narrowed down my list of places I want to apply to....

Stanford
UCLA
Berkeley
USC
Rice
Emory
Carnegie Mellon University
Columbia
NYU
Brown
Cornell
UCSD
UC Irvine
UC Davis
London School of Economics

I expect to cut at least 5 schools from that list but like many others I want to apply to places that I wouldn't have dreamed of applying to straight out of high school.

My Stats:
ACT - 29 in H.S. and will probably retake it (got an 11/12 on the essay)
GPA - Aiming for a high 3.8 or low 3.9 by the end of the fall quarter coming up
Should be IGETC certified
TRYING to be TAP certified but it's becoming increasingly complicated
H.S. GPA - 3.2 or less, definitely didn't see myself as college bound in H.S.

EC's -
-phi theta kappa member,
-a LOT of EC's in high school,
-worked part time for the last 2 years at the same company alternating between a position in marketing and a position in I.T. (paid position)
-currently in India working for Sem. India / Xalted Inc. as a project manager (paid position) (traveled between Bangalore and Bombay to organize a shift of 150+ employees to a new location)
- Also did research on the economic value of RFID applications in industries such as the airline and retail industries @ Xalted in Bombay
(Side note: I'm ethnically indian but trust me I am a complete fish out of water while in India [usa born and raised :)])

Recommendations:
Is it worth getting one from my employer here in India?

Essays / Apps: Will start like my life depends on it upon my return to the states (aug 15th ish)

Potential problems with my transfer app:
Spring 07 quarter I became extremely sick / had serious sleep issues / and family needed help financially (my family = my mom little sister and me) so I dropped a majority of my classes and ended up w/ only 9 units. 1st quarter I took 22units 2nd quarter I took 14 units so all in all it kind of balances out.

and my favorite color is blue!

well then dont take 3rd year ourses required for your major....Take gen eds or something. Right now you're just looking for schools that accept spring transfers which is not a good thing to do..

brand_182 The "It" Factor (n.): Unable to find satisfaction at any college and thus constantly looking to transfer out.

Not exactly. I wouldn't transfer unless I knew surely I wouldn't fit in. Which I do know.

Mojo you got in with a 26? That's not bad. Just goes to show you test scores aren't everything. I'll probably take the test again. I'm looking at a 31 or so, since it's been so long. I don't get what you mean by the American Idol analogy. Do I have to be some sort of superstar or something?

I hope not. At 17 years old I haven't won any Pulitzers, national science competitions, etc. All I have are my grades (aiming for a 4.0 all semester), my extensive leadership roles in ECs, and my strong personality. Haha guess I have no hope then huh? Aw man...

By the by, why didn't you go to Amherst?

K, this is it. The FINAL list after two revisions.

USC (sorta tied with Oxy as first choice)
Occidental College (first choice)
Pomona College
Claremont McKenna College
Pepperdine University
New York University
Boston University
Washington University in St. Louis
Case Western Reserve University (dad went there)

Good thing my CCC has special transfer agreements that allow for priority consideration for Scholars Program students like myself to some of those schools. If it must be known, those schools are Pomona College, and Occidental College on my list. Hopefully that will help me out.

currently at a large state university's honors program
18 credit hours this sem.
(possible) college ec's: flute ensemble, honors council, college democrats, newspaper, community service
applying transfer fall 2008: wash u, u chicago, gw honors, and probably a couple more
major: undecided, but leaning towards english and something else; pre-med

hs gpa: 4.2
ACT: 33
major ec's: co-editor-in-chief of school newspaper, co-president of chem club, group leader for NHS, close to 400 hours of community service, flute, and piano
waitlisted at wash u and gw in spring

any thoughts/suggestions?

Currently: George Mason
taking 16 credits completed 6 from AP-in
GPA-Hopefully it'll be a 3.7 ish

High School:
3.4
1700 SAT

Looking at:
William and Mary
University of Virginia
Rutgers

possibly Georgetown.

Currenty: Community College in West Virginia
This Semester: 17 Credits
Gpa: Shooting for 4.0

HS GPA: 3.5
ACT: 29
SAT: 1850

Right now, looking at:

UNC
UVA
UCLA
Case Western
Cornell
Vanderbilt
U Chicago
NYU
USC

Probably don't have a realistic chance at any of them as a CC transfer...especially since I can't write essays worth crap. And I can't have any safeties, because I can only apply to 100% need-met schools! >_<
