CALS Guaranteed Transfer

So basically I was rejected BUT got a GT to CALS for Environmental Undecided.

I'm unsure what this means for financial aid sophomore year, how many kids take the GT, how is it transferring in after a year (weird? OK? worth it?), etc.

I'm kinda unsure what to do with it.

This GT may really affect my desicion..
Either I'll go to WashU for 4 years or a cheap state school for the 1st year THEN transfer to Cornell. Do I get to know ahead of time (now-ish) what my financial aid package would be? Because that makes all the worlds difference for my desicion.

I'm hoping to hear from students who have recieved a GT in the past or have gotten one like me. But I'm open to any thoughts :)

I am wondering the same thing.

same here

i dont want to make a wrong move like say, rejecting my other college acceptances for a state school then be stuck there because i can’t afford cornell next year

Thread bump. 3 unsure GTs here :3

I don’t know if you’ll know your FA package from before but WashU is a great University as well. If you feel that you belong to Cornell and nowhere else but Cornell, sure go to some cheap state school now and transfer later but its all up to you. btw when did you get your guaranteed transfer letter?

I was a CALS GT this past fall and loved it. It was for sure the best decision I made. I opted for a cheap state school my first year and had a good first year but it was not what I envisioned by freshman year as. I am from the west coast so coming to Cornell was scary but I found it a very easy transition and have had a great experience. PM me if you want more info.

HEY you guys, i was just wondering how your GT letter looked like? was it called a “transfer option” or was it explicitly stated as a guaranteed transfer?

i believe it should explicitly state ‘guaranteed transfer’ because there are some requirements GT’s have to meet before they officially get into cornell.

really? this is what my letter looked like:

Dear ______,

Thank you for applying for freshman admission to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University. The Admissions Committee has completed application review and final decisions have been made. Admission was extremely competitive due to enrollment limitations and the number of qualified applicants to CALS this year.

The Admissions Committee is extending to you a Transfer Option to CALS for the Fall 2011 semester in the Nutritional Sciences program as a sophomore. The Transfer Option is awarded to a select number of students who apply to CALS for Freshman Admission, and have demonstrated a sincere interest in the College’s mission.

Candidates who receive a Transfer Option, are provided with transfer planning and advising throughout the year and complete only a short application. The Transfer Option is a final decision and is not an acceptance. There are firm course requirements that must be met and a short application that needs to be submitted for transfer consideration.

Review the Transfer Option summary and requirements webpage. This information will answer your questions and assist you with your transfer planning. Bookmark this page for future reference.

If you wish to pursue your Transfer Option you are asked to complete and submit the reply form by June 1. If you are unsure at this time, it is advised to complete the form. Submitting the form is not binding and confirms you would like CALS Admissions Office to communicate with you throughout the year. If you reply yes, you will receive an email confirmation by the end of June and periodic CALS updates throughout the year.

We sincerely appreciate your interest in the College and look forward to your positive response to this option.

Sincerely,

Ann M LaFave

Director of Admissions
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

can anyone help with this? i don’t know if this is a guaranteed transfer or not, and i keep forgetting to call cornell lol

Yes it is.

Yes, this is a guaranteed transfer.

They changed the name of it to Transfer Option since it’s not fully guaranteed (the course + gpa requirements, etc)

I just read this conversation. Your GT was in CALS for undecided. I got rejected but then I received a similar letter. My major is biological sciences tho. Is it likely that I would be able to transfer even though it says on their website that biological science majors are not guaranteed?
