Hi I was offered Guaranteed Transfer. Was anyone else? and what are you doing about it? I'm not sure how I feel about going somewhere else my freshmen year and then transferring in my sophomore year. Any thoughts on this?

What exactly does your letter say? I may have been offered it (within a rejection letter for fall 09) but I’m honestly not usre since it never mentions guarantee but from other descriptions its sounds exactly like one… I’m so confused.

By the way, to what school? Mine is for ILR

This is for ILR.

letter said this:

I regret that we are unable to offer you acceptance for Fall 2009. Due to the number of highly qualified applicants, we were unable to offer admission to everyone we had hoped.

However, the admissions selection committee thinks highly of your academic achievements and leadership skills and would like to offer you acceptance in the Fall of 2010 conditional on fulfilling the requirements for a guaranteed transfer (GT). If you choose this option, you do not need to formally re-apply for admissions or pay an additional fee.

A bunch of forms came with it as well to explain GT, and theres a special counselor for these students and you have to sign a form of intent.

but pretty much if I keep a 3.3 my freshmen year, I can transfer to Cornell.

I’m not sure what to do. Right now, due to scholarship, my choices have come down to R.P.I. and University of Maryland.

Any suggestions from anyone?

If you really like Cornell, then I would take advantage of the offer. I transferred to Cornell/CALS without the GT and I’m pleased with my decision.

If you sign up for the GT and decide you don’t want to go, I do not believe you are obligated to transfer.

My letter aid that without the guarantee… So its just a rejection? I will try and transfer regardless. But if it doesn’t work out, I will love where I’m going anyway… So yeah, good luck!

I was waitlisted, but also received a letter with a “tranfer offer”? It said if I don’t get in off the waitlist I will be given a “transfer offer”. Did anyone else get that and is that the same as a “guaranteed offer”?

Caemin…I’ve seen your other posts and I believe your letter was a straight rejection. GTs do not have to formally reapply and I believe your letter mentioned you must formally reapply.

Hi,

I received a letter in the mail saying the following:

"The selection committee has just completed reviewing application to the College of Arts & Sciences; I write to you its response to your application.

Although the committee was impressed by your application, your academic record is not quite as strong as those of the students usually admitted to the college. Nonetheless, the committee recognized your potential and recommended that I offer you a guaranteed transfer into the class of 2013 under the conditions described in the following paragraph.

You may joined as a sophomore in fall 2010 after completing two semesters as a full-time student (taking at least 8 courses) at another reputable 4-year college or university. You must take courses in the liberal arts and sciences and achieve a grade point average of at least 3.2, no grade below C, and no disciplinary infractions…"

I only received this letter alone (with no other forms). Should I call the contact on the letter asking them about the details of the offer?

I got the same kind of offer from CALS, my email said this:

Thank you for applying for freshman admission to the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Cornell University. The Admissions Committee has completed application review and final decisions have been made. Admission was extremely competitive due to enrollment limitations and the number of qualified applicants to CALS this year.

The Admissions Committee is extending to you a Transfer Option to CALS for the Fall 2010 semester in the Environmental Undecided program. The Transfer Option is awarded to a select number of students who apply to CALS for Freshman Admission, who have demonstrated a sincere interest in the College’s mission. Candidates who receive a Transfer Option, are provided with transfer planning, advising, and special priority in the application review and selection process. The Transfer Option is a final decision and is not an acceptance; candidates are required to meet a set of firm requirements for Fall 2010 transfer admission to be awarded.

my guidance counselor called them up and they said that its the same thing as a guaranteed transfer except that their technically not allowed to call it that.

but anyway, how do you guys feel about transferring?
Im scared to fall in love with the school that I go to my freshman year and not want to transfer out even though i know that i will get a better degree and education at cornell.

I don’t regret my decision to transfer one bit.

I hope that you are all guaranteed transfers if that’s what you want.

Anyway, guys I was waitlisted. I know that this is a run of the mill question but do you know what I can do to get off the list? BTW I was accepted by BU-do you know if they are good for engineering. I didn’t even get an interview, did any of you get one?

what are yalls stats?
so i cann see if im in the range of at least getting a gt at cornell…
thanks(:

I was just given a Transfer opportunity for AEM if I attend a smaller school and pull a 3.0 with classes they told me to take. No, you never want to tell your friends and family you are going to community college after high school, but then you know that in a year you will be attending a prestigious Ivy League institution. They pretty much shot me down on trying to attend a better college than a local cc, because they have the state connection with a strict list and that pretty much guarantees acceptance. Thanks and can’t wait to hear who else got this.
