For the admitted students: Any idea when prefrosh is this year?

Mid-April, but no precise dates beyond this off the top of my head.

Before the weekend of the 22nd, would you surmise?

April 20-22

whoa it costs $325 to fly to CA and back from MA... bah, unless Caltech foots the bill =)

does Caltech foot the bill?

Not unless paying for the visit would present significant financial hardship for student's family.

So they're not still doing that nice "girls fly free" thing? Darn.

Ahhh, yet one more reason it rocks to be applying to graduate school: free recruitment weekends. :D

Yeah, I was looking forward to the "Girls fly free" deal. It was like, the reason I applied to Caltech -- a free trip to SoCal!! :) Just kidding.

I'm coming for Prefrosh weekend anyway... But it just cost me $400 out of pocket (NH -- California is a long trek).

yea im prob gonna come during prefrosh weekend too... oh btw do we at least get free housing/food during the 3 days? :P If someone could give a brief summary of what happens during prefrosh weekend...:]

Yes. Other details coming soon by mail to you.

What is prefrosh weekend? And yes, I'm perfectly aware I could exert my fingers and spend 2 minutes to learn it on my own. Deal.

The weekend we invite all the admitted students (aka prefrosh) on campus to stay for the weekend and attend classes, meet current students, attend sessions about why you should come, etc.

Yay for free food! That definately makes up for the $400 plane ticket... not.

Hmmm....this summer I paid $400 for a plane ticket to Vegas to see a free concert. That was fun, albeit ironic.

Bah I have to go somewhere during that week.

frankthetank:

Don't worry, a lot of fellow freshmen didn't visit during pre-frosh either. In fact, it might even be better to go during another time, since most students will act more naturally during other parts of the year.

Um... Why is it on the same weekend as Stanford's Admit weekend? If I get in, does that mean I have to choose between the two? I don't want to have to do that, not before seeing the schools.

We try to coordinate with other schools common to our admits as much as possible (e.g. MIT, Berkeley, Stanford, etc.), however, sometimes those schools won't commit to their date until after we have to start planning for ours.

You can always visit one or the other of the schools at a different time.
