Caltech YESS 2011

When will there be YESS at Caltech this summer 2011?

I have visited the YESS website, but there are no updates for this year.

It indicates that there will not be, which is a definite disappointment.

The University of Wyoming SRAP program also is not happening this summer, apparently due to funding. There go the only two expenses-covered biology programs for rising juniors that I am aware of :frowning: I assume both of these are a consequence of state budget cuts.

Ugh, makes sense. You guys have any other recommendations for similar programs?

Not really for sophomores. The rest of the opportunities we have found are pretty expensive. I guess CTY or TIPS classes are always an option if you are qualified.

Carleton has something called the Carleton Summer Science Institute that accepts sophomores, but they don’t have their 2011 stuff up yet. I emailed with someone from there, and they said they will be doing it this summer, just don’t have the stuff on the website yet. And that they also plan to have rolling admissions this year (their notification date was really late last summer). But as of yesterday the details weren’t up (but last year’s info was). It is certainly not free, but costs less than the other programs I have seen. Here is a link:

My D has decided to go back to Davidson THINK this summer, even though they don’t have any biology offerings this year. She couldn’t have applied to YESS anyway because they don’t take Chem until they are juniors at her high school school, and it is a requirement. But she was going to apply to the Wyoming SRAP program (not happening now). She is studying for the USABO test, so figures she will just do that this summer when she is not at THINK or Quiz Bowl camp.
