<p>Did anyone apply to this summer proram? do you think you'll get in?? i really hope i do...</p>

<p>Move this to Summer Programs…</p>

<p>I applied…;0></p>

<p>i got my confirmation today</p>

<p>I got an email:
"Dear YESS applicant,</p>

<p>Thank you for submitting an application to the YESS program at Caltech. The program has received over 750 applications this year and as of today we are not done processing all documents. Therefore, we expect to send out confirmations next Wednesday, March 25th. If you are missing something, please be assured that you will have an opportunity to submit the missing item.</p>

<p>We appreciate your patience and understanding. We are working hard to finish processing the applications and look forward to reading your application.</p>

<p>Thank you for your patience!</p>

<p>Luz"</p>

<p>how do i move this to summer programs?? yeah i got my confirmation today too…750!! and wat? 30 get in?? uh-oh…so is it true that “minorities” have a better chance in geting in??</p>

<p>^yep I think that’s true</p>

<p>YESS is the only summer program i applied to. is there any other summer programs that it isnt’ to late to apply to…??i know that the MIt thing is too late for…</p>

<p>I applied. I don’t think I have any chance of getting in though. I had a hard time answering the essay prompt well. I don’t know why really though.</p>

<p>I got the same letter listed above T_T</p>

<p>I’m super anxious, the real conformations were supposed to come out today, and all I’ve gotten from them was an invitation to a webinar… </p>

<p>-deep sigh- I’m not sure what my chances of getting in are… I’m not an affirmative action minority, which are all the minorities they list on the site. </p>

<p>I’m like quaking out of my socks here.</p>

<p>DId they postpone the notice of acception again?</p>

<p>Well, I know it was postponed confirmations initially until the 25th, however I didn’t receive any emails along the lines of it being postponed once more. Though, they did say be patient =&lt;/p>

<p>Perhaps we won’t hear back until acceptance and rejection letters are sent out on the 10th. T_T</p>

<p>Is there anyone that got in this program in 2008 able to share information about life @ Caltech….;O?</p>

<p>I got into it last summer and wow, did it make me love Caltech even more. The YESS program was the only summer program that I had applied to. Caltech had been my number one college choice for quite some time, and I was really hoping that I would be accepted into the YESS program–and what do you know!? I got in!
Last year, there were a total of 29 students (all of which were probably smarter than I was!) Some were from the East coast and a lot were from Texas and California. Coming into the program, I really didn’t know how the atmosphere of the campus/students was going to be. I was pleasantly surprised. Everyone there was really nice and didn’t necessarily fulfill the nerd stereotype(well, some did…but not everyone)
The YESS students live in dorms(not in the main 8 houses, but instead some graduate ones) with several counselors, who, by the end of the 3 weeks, you’ll be pretty close to. Although you don’t live in the main 8 houses, you’re really close to the everything. The dining hall(Chandler) is like a short block away and the admissions office(where you have presentations and stuff about the admission process) is like a block and a half away. The main library and all your classes are like 5 minutes away. Basically, everything is really really close.
Something kind of cool is that after the first few days(when you have to be shown where your classes are and such) you’re left alone to act responsibly and get up, eat, and go to classes on time. So in a sense, you’re treated like an actual college student.
Class-wise, you take a neuroscience and a physics course, which are taught by Caltech graduate students. For me, physics was very hard(I had never previously taken any physics class) and you move pretty quickly. You have a problem set every night and a few lab write-ups throughout. Even the people who had taken Physics C had some trouble with the material. But thank goodness for office hours!(I went to every single one) At the end, you have to give a presentation. The presentation can vary from something like black holes all the way to how gecko’s can stick to stuff. I had the elasticity of a bouncy ball. Although I was finally able to understand concepts at the end of that course, I preferred the neuroscience course. It’s a lab course, so each night you read a prelab and the next day you have a quiz, take some notes, then go straight into the lab. Last year, one of the first labs was dissecting a sheep’s brain. The labs, overall, are very interesting. Like with physics, you also have to do a presentation at the end.
Apart from doing problem sets and other projects/hw, you get to explore Pasadena and the LA area during the weekends. This was definitely one of the best parts. Throughout the program, you gain some pretty strong friendships and being able to go places with them, strengthens these friendships even more. You also get to check out the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and some of the bio labs, which are very interesting.
Overall, in the program, you’ll really enjoy the close tight-knit bond between all the YESS members, and you’ll love life at Caltech!
And, by the way, out of the 27 seniors(I’m not sure if all of them applied…even though there is a fee waiver…) 13 of them got in. That’s almost 50%, which is wayyy better than the 15% for any one who wasn’t in the program.
Oh, and I got in and am currently deciding on either Caltech(which has given me a full ride :]) or Stanford(which I’m still waiting to hear back from their financial aid office).
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.</p>

<p>Wow. Sorry that it’s sooooo long :)</p>

<p>mvz315 …. Thanks for the thorough feed back!!!..</p>

<p>Yea! Thanks a lot for your feedback!</p>

<p>I hope I don’t get a “NO” from YESS…</p>

<p>Would you mind sharing what your credentials were when you got in? Minority status, grades, academic excellence, etc…? that sort of thing?</p>

<p>I’m super nervous.</p>

<p>^^^^^^^^^^
me toooo</p>

<p>4 more days! anybody getting nervous?</p>

<p>what were everyones’ stats?</p>

<p>Haha, I would be really nervous if I hadn’t gotten accepted into SSP.
but I’ll prob be attending SSP regardless if I get into this program.
Idk why I even applied, since I’m not a minority (asian), so I’ll prob be rejected from this.
Do you guise know what the acceptance rate is?
and how well do YESS alumni fare in college admissions? (like, % accepted to HYPSMC)</p>
