^ If it’s the PSAT, just copy the top with the scores.

Someone wrote this on another thread:

My question is REALLY??? I’ve been very excited about YESS, but this quote kind of reduces it down… (plus I am neither a minority nor low income).

Thanks to all of you for the help with the PSAT scores. They’ve been faxed now.

^
It’s true that it’s not a research program, but it still seems really fun and good (imo). That person made it sound like it’s not a big deal…

Yes, it is aimed at minorities, but anyone can apply. It’s also very competitive.

I’m still excited about it. :)

I’m also not a minority.

^same here, not a minority, but couldn’t afford to go to a high-priced camp this summer. I’m just hoping to get in :)

^
Yeah, I can’t afford to go to the programs where you have to pay like Harvard ssp is about $9,000 for I think 6 weeks. Haha, I’m worried about college. It costs soo much money lol

My chances are extremely slim, but ah well.

Yeah I’ve tried to find free programs to attend for this summer, but so many of the science related ones are for minorities. I’d love to do some of the other programs, but yeah, $9k isn’t laying around in my pocket at the moment!

I think YESS will be a lot of fun and I’m excited to be on the Caltech campus, but I’m not a fan of LA, though I’ve never been there.

I’d be excited to head out West for the first time, and I think that I’d actually like the learning environment. But my chances are pretty slim, I don’t even think the online app was sent in, so I think I won’t get in. But eh, at least we all tried :)

haha I def. don’t have that much spare cash for summer course

@sMITten
Yeah, exactly. =) I don’t have spare cash for a summer program lol

Isn’t caltech in pasadena…which I think is near LA, but not LA?

@big dreamer
Haha me too. I live on the east coast and have only been to ny and the farthest west was tx.
Aw, I’m sure it was sent in.
I think these summer program apps have kind of prepared me for real college apps. I kind of know what to expect and i guess the kind of things they want you to write about.

Ya Pasadena and LA are two completely different cities. I hate LA myself but would LOVE to live in Pasadena.

I read that some of their activities include trips into LA.

@sMITten
Ohh, okay that makes sense then. I thought you meant to say that the actual program was in LA. =)

If you don’t mind my asking, what email are the confirmations coming from? I keep asking my son if he recvd anything and he says no. Concerned mom:)

It’s from a caltech.edu addy. This is the subject line: The Status of your Young Engineering and Science Scholars (YESS) Program Application

@hpaero1: Yeah, I think they do help! I just need to be more concise in my writing style, because I can really go on and on and on and on lol. When do college apps generally become available? Because I would like to start in, like, July, as opposed to in the fall.

I think it’d be awesome to check out Pasadena, and I was hoping (if I got in) that I could meet some friends in LA, so I’m not upset with the locale lol. I heard LA was awesome to visit, just not to live in. Is this a true statement?

Hi everyone,
I sent out my application on time for the YESS program,
however I still have not received a confirmation email.
Is this normal? I’m kind of starting to worry…

I had a problem with my application and immediately responded to the sender of the confirmation email and have not gotten any response from her at all. I somewhat suspect the issue is on their end and not yours, but I do know that there website essentially says it is ok to contact them to make sure your application was complete. I know I would if I had not received any correspondence at all.

I sent an email to them about it yesterday and they haven’t responded yet…
but thank you for the advice! =) I’ve got my fingers crossed that they’ll respond soon =)

me too singularity! I also sent an email, but I sent it on Tuesday, I still have not gotten a response. We are supposed to send it to yess@caltech.edu right?

Same situation here. No response yet.

@big dreamer
Haha, me too. I need to improve my writing to make it meaningful, but not drag on and on.
I’m not sure. I think it depends on the college. I know some have it available in July. I guess you could always look at previous years’ applications if the actual ones aren’t out yet.

@snowing
Yeah you are. =)

They usually take a couple of days to reply…
I e-mailed them a while ago about the online app not working and they e-mailed back after 3 days.
