Campus culture?

I’ll be attending U of M in the fall and I was wondering if anyone could give their interpretation of the culture on campus? I know it’s a good school but I’ve always gotten the impression that there’s a lot of football and parties. How accurate is this view? Is it super competitive? Am I constantly going to feel like the dumbest one in the room? What is the rest of Ann Arbor like? I guess I’m just trying to get a better feel for the area. Applying was kinda a last minute thing and I never went on any tours or to campus days or anything, so I have no idea what to expect. I’ll be in the LSA Honors program if that changes anything.

It’s a HUGE school, so you can find whatever culture you want. Football and parties are abundant (during FB season) for those who want/like that sort of thing. Obviously, not everyone goes to football games and tailgates, even if it seems like everyone does. But with 25,000 undergrads, you can find whatever culture you want.

Congratulations. If you are in honors that is a privilege. Don’t feel beneath anyone… You got accepted to University of michigan honors!!! You can make a big school feel small by joining clubs and activities you enjoy. Definitely get tickets for the first year and experience some football games. But you don’t have to… If you don’t like it sell your tickets…

You are going to one of the best schools and campuses in the United States. My son just ended his first year and doesn’t feel any competition at all. Students want to do well and help each other. I am sure there are those that are competitive but you had that in high school also. You will find kids you want to be around and enjoy. Have a great experience.
