Ok everyone following is a short recollection of my experience. please pardon the spelling errors.

At around 8ish my mother and I arrived at the Union buidling where we were instructed to go to the ballroom. wow beautiful. really it was there that i realized how good U of M really was- at my table alone there were students from California, Louisiana, and Wisconsin. Mara gave us a quick overview of the day and then some guy gave us a presentation about the Michigan Learning Communities. what i didnt like was the fact that tha fin aid and housing presentations happened at the same time. my mom and i stayed for the housing presentation which was not the most informative part at all. later students were seperataed and went to the student panel presentation, where they asked questions about the school to the students. later we were all split up with into our tour groups. our leader was joe- awesome tour leader. first we went to angell hall. he showed us the computer lab there. macs account for a good 1/3 of all computeres at U of M. then we were led to the chem buidling and were shown a chem lecture class- wow sits maybe 500 students? the building was lovely. then we went to the graduate library and then the undergraduate library which by the way is open till 5 AM. later we headed towards the law school and the south quad where we saw a dorm room. it was small but quite clean hehe. lunch was next. let me say the cafeteria food was very good. lots of choices ranging from vegetarian to indian to deli style. we stayed around a bit and afterwards were led to a presentation of LSA. a couple advisors and professors were present. they gave us an overview as well. later we went to the Residential College- which I might particiapte in as it focuses on language proficency.

What I like about U of M- great facilities, clearly knowledgable faculty, awesome opportunities, dorms, food

What I dislike about U of M- the prepiness of the students ( I swear I have never seen so many North Face jackets and polos), quite frankly I didnt see the diversity ( in reality there were very few black students)

i went also....same exact thing except i wasnt too impressed with the food...i found all teh students to be really nice and i spent time in ann arbor which has really cool stores and nice restaurants....it was cold but not too bad...EVERYONE has a northface (yes, every single student)

dude there are so many orientals there what r u talking about? lol. Its basically whites and oriental and in some stores there were plenty of arabs/other muslims. yea not many blacks though. i just went today just to walk around. looks really dirty and messy right now in some areas of the campus but maybe thats cause its end of winter or maybe not? engineering buildings were cool.

"What I dislike about U of M- the prepiness of the students ( I swear I have never seen so many North Face jackets and polos), quite frankly I didnt see the diversity ( in reality there were very few black students)"

hating the "prepiness" has nothing to do with conformity considering the fact that you proceeded to comment on the number of black people you saw...i think you are one of those people who likes to call his/herself "liberal" when in fact...you're not the least bit open-mined...stop associating popped collars and a brand of clothing with...conservative pricks who don't value diversity....

i'm going to umich next year and everyday my collar will be popped and my north face will be on....i'll also have friends of all different races....i'm not being hateful towards you in any way....i've just seen this mentality on other posts in the past and I am trying to put this...."if u pop your collar you are a certain type of person" myth to rest

agree with laxman. hell i wear polo and all this designer wear crap lol but im a nice person and i get along with everyone. im buds with so many kids in my school that are no where near wealthy as i am but that doesnt matter. tell ya what, if the stereotype of rich/preppy kids becomes apparent to u at michigan, look me up lol

hey guys,
i visited U Mich Thurs and Fri, got back last night. I went the unconventional way and did not participate on "Campus Day" (lucky me, there was no space available).....anyways, the experience was still AWESOME. I had my own personal tour guide (friend of my cousin's who just so happends to attend UMich) I spent most of my time visiting north campus (engin. and music and architecture dept.). I have to say, it's not the most "happening" place, it's very tranquil and there are many MANY trees...very naturalistic. It's a very serious place but I think you need that..'specially if you're doing engineering like me. The only thing that bugged me was that they did not have a specific biomed engin building, which leads me to believe that it's not a very big dept there...anyone have any input on what biomed engin. or engin. in general is like there?

since we all are going to share the campus next year its better to start of right. i dont have a problem with prepiness per se what i do have a problem with is people not being open minded to anyone who is not preppy, you know? if you are a good person and preppy hell whatever, but you are a good person. you know what i mean? i hope i didnt come off too judegemental if i did sorry
