Campus Honors program??

When do these notifications come out?

I'm NOT referring to the James Scholar program....I'm referring to the university wide honors program, in which only about 125 students are accepted

From what I recall, I found out around April 1st. Apps are being evaluated now through the 16th.

what benefits does one receive if one is accepted into the campus honors program?

how do you apply to the campus honors program? Is it through your application for admission only? and yeah roderick’s question as well?

You don’t apply. It is based on the applications for admission and is offered to about the top 1% of applicants (the goal is to get about 125 and thus offered to about 250 to achieve that 125 who actually accept admission and enroll). There is no scholarshp attached to it for in-state (although some may otherwise get some merit aid from the university or particular college they are in because of their high rank) but they usually provide one to OOS in amount that is close to the OOS portion of tuition. If you accept, you agree to take certain number of honors courses. One advantage it does create is priority enrollment. For any given class year, the campus honors students get to enroll for courses before others do and thus can get the courses and times they want before anyone else in the class gets a shot.

urm you get priority enrollment with James Scholars too don’t you? so when and how are the results declared?

Any news regarding this? This is a big deciding factor for me :)

Both JS and CHP get priority registration, but CHP is usually in the morning on the first day while JS are in the afternoon. CHP is much more prestigious in my opinion and offers more of an honors community in its deeper program since CHP requires not only specialized honors classes (typically 20 or fewer students taught by an esteemed professor with a specific list of courses to choose from each semester) but also offers social events and other enrichment opportunities not open to JS like early viewing on some Krannert Center plays, lunches with professors, an annual summer study abroad trip, etc.

wow when will the notifications come out…do they notify by any other method than regular mail?

Found some info!!!

“SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES ARE INFORMED IN BY LETTER WHICH IS MAILED BY/DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF APRIL.”

[Admissions Information | Campus Honors Program at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign](<a href=“Campus Honors Program – Campus Honors Program at UIUC”>Campus Honors Program – Campus Honors Program at UIUC)

wow regular mail may come in even after May 1st here, if they mail it in the first week of april :P

So JS is just departmental honors while CHP recruits the very best from the incoming freshman and some sophomores? Wider scope goes to JS in terms of selection and narrow when it comes to benefits; while wider scope in terms of prestige and benefits and narrow scope in terms of selectivity goes to CHP. That’s my guess.

Does this infer CHP recruits would also be JS’s since being a CHP has a higher selectivity? Have all of the JS notifications be sent?

i got the notification today

I believe you can be both in the JS and CHP.

@ tymanx2

Where are you located? I really hope to get into the program, but i’m in NY, so I hope good news tomorrow maybe :)

tymanx2 Did you get the notification today for the CHP? Are you also a JS and when did you get that notification?

I got a packet today in the mail…I live in illlinois so it makes sense that I would get it earlier than other people.

I’m also a James Scholar, I got that notification a while ago–I don’t remember exactly when.

Good luck to everyone else!

Would a Matthews Scholar be at a fairly good chance of recieving entry into the Campus Honors Program?

So the benefit for honors pgm for an in stater is 1st shot at classes and maybe some plays?

and is given to the top 1 pct of applicants. i guess this is better odds than little lotto. :)

so there is no special housing or classes for honor people? I believe there is such housing and classes at iowa and indiana for the honors folk.

There is no special housing for the honors folk…If you talk to the head of the CHP, he’ll explain that some of the other schools you mention have lower admission standards, and it’s their way of attracting the top students (to have honors housing or floors).

The benefit is just that you get to take some small specialized classes with top profs in their fields, with a much more personalized approach, and there are some special programs and scholarships available for people in the program.

The main thing I guess is the ability to use the CHP on your resume at the end of the program. the head of the program will write a reference for you whenever you need it, and the program is supposed to be very prestigious and known by employers.
