I just got into MIT, but am still waiting for notice from Harvard. MIT has a program called CPW from the 7th of April to the 10th for those who have gotten in to look at the school and such, I just wanted to know if anyone knew if Harvard had something like this, and if so, if anyone knows when it is, because it would be silly to fly back on the 10th if Harvard's starts right after. Granted this is all if I get in, and I don't want to jinx myself :-P. Good luck to all of you, hopefully see you in the fall!

The admitted students weekend at Harvard is scheduled for the end of April. If you do get admitted into Harvard, you might check with either MIT or Harvard to see if you could combine both visits so as to avoid two separate trips. You will then get to see one of the campuses on more normal days. Make sure you can get an overnight visit, as checking the housing accommodations, talking with undergraduates informally and scoping out the social scene will be an important factor in your decision.

Harvard actually has their Preview weekend over May 1st, the common reply date. So basically if you are split on schools you might have to make a call to the other school to see whether they will accept the contract about 2 or 3 days late.

The prefrosh program here is the weekend of April 30th.

Or you can simply pay the relativly small deposit to the other school as the price to keep yur options open...and lose it. They have a waitlist and the admissions process has been a long, hard ordeal. No guilt, no shame.

NO, don't do that! Laurenemma's suggestion of asking for an extension is a much better idea. I know of someone who accepted their admission to Harvard and then decided they should have picked MIT. MIT would not allow them to accept until they had contacted Harvard and arranged to get out of their committment. Avoid this problem by simply asking MIT for a couple of extra days to decide.

Think about it this way. If you end up picking MIT over Harvard it actually can go into their statistics, and to know that they are being considered in the same frame of mind as Harvard would please quite a few schools.
