Can a 1 class be used as both a Major Prereq and for IGETC?

So I'm Majoring in Economics. I've taken both Micro and Macro as I need them to transfer as an Econ Major. But they are also part of Area 4 in IGETC.

So my question is, can they fulfill both sections as my major pre-req and IGETC classes? Or would I need to take another class to fulfill Area 4 of IGETC

Major pre-reqs are not a “thing”. They are just all of the classes that you have to take. Any classes that meet the criteria for IGETC are used to fulfill it.

1 word, yes.

Yes, you can use major classes to satisfy GE requirements.

But since area 4 requires 3 classes in at least 2 disciplines, you still need to take one more class that is not an economics class.

For the third class, I would recommend trying to see if there are any other requirements that specific UCs require for graduation in addition to IGETC and major requirements. For example, UCB has an “american cultures” requirement or something along those lines, and while you don’t have to satisfy it before transferring, you will have to before graduating. So if you found a class that fulfilled that requirement that also satisfied your 3rd Area 4 class (ex: a class on ethnic politics), I would recommend you take that just so you don’t have to worry about it later.

Just wanted to be 100% sure.

And yeah Shannon I know. I’ve finished most of my IGETC already lol
