Kid from Cornell partying at UVA (I think) died a few days ago after a party. Alcohol poisoning.

Seriously, drinking might just be the best part of college. If you've never drank before, go out and have an older friend buy you a quality beer. I think you'll find it quite tasty. Don't worry, unless you weigh less than 20 pounds, you won't get hungover from one beer.

I thought drinking was part of the high school experience too?

yeah I think it is, but a bunch of kids (the kids who are going to go to ivies) really didn't get out much in hs due to strict parents, etc. I still know kids who drink (they're in college) whose parents would kill them if they found out. Strange parents

soccer0407, i think what a person's "college experience" is really all relative.. drinking doesn't have to be one of them if the person doesn't want it to be.. and no i really shouldn't go start, because i dont want to. to each his own

yeah, I really don't think drinking will determine a social future for a student; it's a choice.

I'm sure everyone appreciates your advice, but I'm relatively certain most people on here can think for themselves. You'll make your decisions, we'll make ours. You don't know me (or anyone else you are enlightening, for that matter) and I don't know you.

Thanks anyway.

this is odd...I was talking to my friend about this the other day.

I have those kind of parents. They would kill me if they knew I was drinking with my friends. Yet, I still drink and smoke. It's not that hard to sneak out at night; I do it a few times a week.

Haha same, my parents are crazy strict, which is probably why I smoke up and drink as much as I do. Well, I don't drink as much as I smoke, but you know what I mean.

I'm not sure what's wrong with you people. Of course non-drinkers can't survive in college. Didn't you know about that whole scandal where colleges have been poisoning their non-drinking students?

Sorry, couldn't resist. However, I know a lot of people who swore they wouldn't ever drink in college and they've all been to parties and drank a bit, but not in excess.

so im very curious how all u hard partyers handle ur responsiblities? could any of u give us a rundown of ur week at cornell so we can see how u handle ur drinking habit?

Ummm...easy. Do all you work on Sunday, go to class, keep up on readings. Take the night off when you have too much to do. Repeat.

HiImAlcoholic how tough are prelims in ILR?

Not bad, from my experience.

o yeah, whether wise..does the cold weather ever get really annoying? or is it ok to deal with as long as ur having fun.
I'm from Boston and i kinda hate the cold lol and im hearing Ithaca is even colder than here

Well, I like the cold. If you don't like being cold it's probably going to suck sometimes, but you get used to it.

im from buffalo and it is colder than ithaca.

are you able to socialize a little and meet people in classes? or is it primarily all business

Yeah, classes are pretty social, in my experiences. Most people are there a few minutes early, so you talk to your friends.
