I'm planning to partake in UCLA's summer session this year. I'm an international student by the way and I'm currently in my 2nd year in university.

Is it possible that UCLA will offer me admission? I know it sounds too ambitious and far fetched but I'd appreciate if you could share your thoughts with me.

What do you mean by admission, is your question about just summer session? I believe anyone can enroll in summer, even international students, as long as you pay the registration fee. You will also need the I-20.

i meant admission as a transfer student, after my summer session at UCLA. My home university is in singapore and it has arrangements with Cal, UCLA, and UCSD for summer sessions. I’m not singaporean by the way.

as to the reason why I’m hoping to transfer, let’s leave for another thread.

I can’t say for sure, but I’ve never heard of attending summer sessions affecting your admission either as transfer or a freshman. If anything, it might make your summers seem more interesting, but you will still need the grades and such to get into UCLA.

i think he’s trying to say that if he can get admitted in for summer, if he can somehow segway into becoming completely admitted into the university (i.e. for fall, winter, and spring.) And if that’s what your asking then probably not. You surely aren’t the first person to think of this.

hmm, that’s what I had in mind, actually. by the way, there’s no need for me to be “admitted” for the summer session. all students from my school are eligible to attend ucla for the summer due to internal arrangements, i suppose.

so if that’s the case, then can i still transfer after my summer session by applying?

You have to apply like everyone else. You really thought that if you stuck around long enough, they would just consider you a part of the campus? (…) Or are you asking if you can transfer (you obviously can in the regular admissions period).

no. you have to apply just like everyone else.

of course, it would help “a little” if you have all A’s in the summer classes and they’re related to your intended major. But summer session is like a summer camp as it’s open to everyone.

If your goal is to become a stuent in UCLA , I would say it is worth to try summer session to see whether you like UCLA or not. The credits you earn will be UCLA credits. As for whether it can increase the chances when you apply to UCLA, it may, however your GPA and EC in Singapore counts most. The grades you earn in UCLA summer will count.
