Can anyone play a game of predictions on my list? Test your prediction skills!

Hi, everyone. Now that ED EA notifications are approaching, I think it will be more interesting to actually predict one's application results rather than to chance one's list of schools. I've seen many similar prediction threads on the CC forum, and found that many of them were particularly interesting. So I'll just start with my own - we can wait and see whether your predictions actually match the results. Here is my general profile, and I wonder if you guys can air your views:

Int'l student from China

Objectives:
TOEFL:111
SAT:2300 this May(CR 730 Math 780 Writing 790 essay9)
2160 this June(CR 690 Math 800 Writing 670(ouch,essay8))
superscore 2320 (should I consider superscoring these 2 attempts?)
SAT II: Math1 800 Math2 800 Physics 800 Chemistry 800
GPA:3.82/4.00 or 94/100
Class ranking: 1st in 615 students for 2 and a half years

No APs in Chinese schools, but the courses are equally difficult as APs or even more difficult.
(Chinese, math, physics, chemistry, biology roughly equal to US APs; I followed the science curricula, so history, geology, politics are all electives. Everyone follows the same Chinese-college-prep(Gaokao-oriented) curriculum here, so there are no choices of classes)

Academic awards:
Top 100 Finalists nationwide in 'The Awarding Program for Future Scientists' jointly held by Chinese Government and HK H.S. Chau Foundation
National 2nd Prize in Chinese Physics Olympiad for 3 consecutive years(Best ranking:55th in a pool of 30000 in province);
3rd Prize in Chinese High School Math Tournament(Top 500 in a pool of 30000) during Grade 11;
2nd Prize in Chinese High School Math tournament(Top 250 in 30000),
National 1st prize in the Chinese National English Proficiency Contest for 2 consecutive years(Top 50 in a pool of 30000)
Scholarship Winner of the 'Picture yourself in Perth' Competition held by Perth government and my city(Top 10 out of hundreds within the entire city)

ECs:
1. Founder and Leader of the student acoustic guitar band for 2 consecutive years, gave performances in school
2.Teaching assistant in New Oriental School for a few months
3. Foreign exchange: went on a 2-week cultural exchange program to Australia under the scholarship from Australian government; one of the 10 finalists in my city to win the competition.
4.Head of the Studying Department of the Students' Union for 2 years; led a petition in school for changes in teaching methods;
5.Research on mathematics during summer in Grade 10;paper submitted to the 'Tomorrow Little scientist Competition' in China.'Study on the irrational solutions of cubic equations with integral coefficients';entered national final round (TOP 100)
6.Volunteer in local nursing homes; Service hours:100+
7. Chief translator of the entire school during foreign exchanges: service hours: no less than 50(5.6 both lasted for 1-2 years)

I think my essays are good overall(though that's a bit subjective).

Need great external financial assistance.(Family Contribution at most $5k, so I'm applying for near full-ride FA at many of the schools unless it is otherwise stated) And for the sake of demonstration, please air your views on the following schools in the following form:

A - accepted, B- waitlisted, C- denied, D -denied, E- accepted but no FA, etc.

Amherst(ED)
Baylor(EA) - already accepted with 1/3 merit
Uchicago(EA) (merit only, not applying for FA)

Regular: HYPM, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, WUSTL(merit only),
Williams, Swarthmore, Carleton, Davidson(applied for merit+FA), Wash & Lee(applied for merit+FA),Vassar, Colby, Hamilton, Kenyon, Trinity

and give me some recommendations if possible. Thank you very much!

wow you have alot of colleges on your list

bump…guys, anyone here?

I think you might be one of the strongest international applicants from east Asia!
I’m also an int app but from canada so we are a bit apart in the pool of int applicants.

Amherst: accepted or deferred
Uchicago: accepted or deferred
Columbia: cannot say, this school has a wacky statistical past
Dartmouth and brown: likely to be accepted
All the other schools are highly likely to be accepted including cornell

I personally think you are a really strong candidate, mainly off of your rank and ECs.

Amherst(ED) - accepted
Uchicago(EA) (merit only, not applying for FA) - deferred

H - denied
Y - denied
P - denied
M - waitlisted
Dartmouth - accepted
Cornell - accepted
Columbia - denied
Brown - accepted
WUSTL(merit only) - accepted
accepted at the rest of the LAC’s

keep in mind not every school on you list offers need-based aid for international students.

Amherst: accepted
Uchicago: deferred
Columbia: denied
Dartmouth and brown: accepted
All the other schools are highly likely to be accepted including cornell

Recommend you don’t superscore

Thx for your reply guys, any more predictions? Let’s continue the game - we’ll see if they are accurate!

Bump 10char… Anymore comprehensive predictions?

Just a note: Cornell is not need-blind (i.e. they will take the fact that you require financial aid into consideration) for international students. Idk how much this will affect your chances, but just something to consider.

H - denied
Y - Accepted with low financial aid
P - denied/waitlist
M - Definitely denied- horrible for international students. A friend won international robotics olympiad 2 times, 2400 SAT, IB predicted- 42/42. Invented a new way of monitoring blood pressure, still got denied.
Dartmouth - accepted
Cornell - Denied because of need aware financial aid. (the school sucks anyway so I’d say don’t bother)
Columbia - Accepted/waitlist
Brown - accepted

Regular: HYPM, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, WUSTL(merit only),
Williams, Swarthmore, Carleton, Davidson(applied for merit+FA), Wash & Lee(applied for merit+FA),Vassar, Colby, Hamilton, Kenyon, Trinity

I’m sorry if this sounds like the lazy way out but I get the impression that all of these schools are either safeties or matches. Your application is ridiculously strong, but of course at the likes of the top schools it’s a crapshoot for anyone who hasn’t cured cancer or has a rich daddy.

^this is my post before reading what everyone else had to say. Apparently I had underestimated the difficulty of applying internationally.

What major do you intend to study?
Have you thought of applying to Canadian/British schools?
Have you gotten your essays proofread by someone competent/trustworthy?
How are your recommendation letters?
Just a few questions to consider IMHO

Amherst(ED) D
Uchicago(EA) E
Regular: HYPM D,
Dartmouth W,
Cornell E,
Columbia W,
Brown D,
WUSTL(merit only) A,
Williams D,
Swarthmore D,
Carleton A
Davidson(applied for merit+FA) A,
Wash & Lee(applied for merit+FA) A,
Vassar A,
Colby A,
Hamilton A,
Kenyon A,
Trinity A

I’m sorry but I don’t know much about how they select international students, but when you are compared to American students you are definitely among the top.

bumptybump, thx a lot for your advice. Still I am a bit confused about one previous answer - what do D and E mean?

chance me back please, I’d really appreciate it.

Hello?bump 10char…
