Hey everyone,

I received a "C" in calculus and I want to improve it to atleast an A or B. I am currently at a CC looking to transfer to a UC. If I can retake the class, does my new grade replace my "c"?

Thanks

No, C’s cannot be “replaced”.

If C’s can’t be retaken, wouldn’t it be better for your GPA to get a D that you can replace?

Unfortunately, the UCs will not take that “retake” class. It’s only applied for D’s/F’s.

Better than a D.

^ correct. C’s cannot be retaken for a high grade.

“If C’s can’t be retaken, wouldn’t it be better for your GPA to get a D that you can replace?”

Not too many people actually contemplate about getting D’s but to just pass or get a higher grade.

To go off this post… I am wondering if I can retake a D class from a University at a Community College for a better grade? --Thanks in advance

a 5unit calculus class ended with a C will hurts your GPA for sure…

a w is better than a C or a D or an F.

A<B<W<C<D<F

Brettsbaby: You cannot retake a University class at a Community College.

You can retake a lower division university class at a community college.

most California community colleges have lower division course equivalencies with the UC, you can retake those at a CC

Let’s just say that I got a D. If I do retake the class, and get an A or B… will the A or B completely replace the C? In other words, will the C be deleted from my transcript?

I think you mean if the D will still be deleted if you got an A or B, but the D will still stay. They will only count which of the better two grades you got in that class towards your GPA.

The D will stay on your transcripts forever, lol. But when calculated your GPA and such, they will take the re-take grade, in this case, the A or B.

It sucks for Graduate School…they count everything…-.-;;;

what would you do if you were me? Call my teacher and have them turn it into a D so I can retake it? Or just accept the C? I’m positive that if I take the class over again get an A.

A>B>W>D>F>C

that’s what i think…

but if the class is really hard, and you are pretty sure that no matter you retake it or not, the best grade you can possibly get is a C. then go for the C…

otherwise, i would recommend a W, D or F.

it’s true that a ‘c’ in a 5 unit class will hurt your gpa.

but i highly doubt that a UC will deny you admission just because you have ONE c on your transcript.

ugh I hate Cs!

I had one C and was still accepted to UCLA, UCI and UCSB.

@socal

in your opinion, an “F” and a “D” grade is better than a “C” grade, really?

i think a lot of people blow the whole idea of having a “C” out of proportion, as long as you have a good GPA a couple of C’s shouldn’t hinder your chances of getting into a respectable UC.

i think i should retake it
