completely affect your chances of getting into a University? Like a make it or break it type thing?

I had a D in Spanish in My junior year, first semester. The second semester, I had a C. I was struggling with Spanish/Foreign Languages my entire life.

I am just curious, because I really don't want this to be true, but I just want to double-check. I know a D will hurt my GPA and it already did. But is it also a make it or break it type deal too?

Well if you are a great student otherwise - lots of A’s and maybe some B’s here and there, great essays and extra-curriculars - then I don’t foresee the D being the main reason why you are not accepted into a school.

Well, That’s the thing as well. I’m not a student that gets a lot of A’s. Sadly…I really didn’t know what the heck i was doing early in my life.

Anyways, I’m applying to Purdue and Loyola and I am not sure how that judge it…

Again, just one D will not break you - consistent D’s however, will.

I think you’ll be fine for Purdue as long as you meet the deadline next week so that you are given first priority (they work on rolling admissions). Good luck! And please, relax, you will not be penalized too severely for just one D. :)

Yeah, I turned out my transcript and application on October 29th I believe…Just need to get my counselor’s recommendation and it will be done…

How would you say my chances look?
Here is my background info…
-3.8 GPA under a 5.0 scale (This is a 2.8 on a 4.0 scale, from what I was told by the school, etc.)
-21 ACT Score, I took it twice, the other one was a 20
-Involved in Sports and Activities like Football and Peer Counseling
-Have made an improvement with Class Difficulties over the years, Started from very weak classes to very strong honor/A.P classes.

Also I was basically in special ed/prep/below general classes my fresh year, I really have no clue how the hell that happened, but I improved my way through soph year and junior year. After the 1st semester, I was taking pure General classes, Sophomore year, pure general classes again with great grades. Junior year, I started taking Honor/A.P classes. Senior year/currently, I’m taking A.P classes

I did not mention once being in special ed classes in my application, so should the person admitting me in or not, be able to recognize it though? It does show I was withdrawn from it.

I already said Purdue and Loyola, but I finished my Purdue application on October 29th, I mentioned that I applied to Purdue earlier, so what you think of my chances?

Your consistent improvement and greater challenges will count. They may recalc your gpa w/o freshman year- just to see. The ACT is a problem. You know that. It’s more recent and it’s what measures the significance of your grades. If you have more apps to go, be frank about the hard work you’ve done in the past two years. Show your growth. Hopefully, your reccs also show your maturity and better committment now. The GC’s may mention starting in sp ed and working your way out. Best of luck.

So how are my chances lookingforward? I don’t think the ACT is that much of a problem, I think it would be problem if it was under 20. I know it isn’t in the average, but neither is my gpa…

Oh wow lol, I don’t know much about abbreviations in colleges lol… What do you think my chances are Apoc on Purdue? And I’m not sure if it is true, but do they actually take Letters of Recommendation?

I think that you will have a hard chance getting accepted to Purdue, but your trend looks good. I do not know how mentioning you were in special education will affect your admission so I cannot comment on that.

Give a % of my chances of getting accepted, It is said that 8% of the people with a 2.5-2.9 gpa have gotten accepted to Purdue according to Collegeboard, did you know that?

I’ve used a site called Naviance that our school showed us, it is to see who in our school has made it to Purdue and I’ve seen people with like 15 ACT scores get in, I’ve seen people with 2.6 gpa get in…Usually athletes are pretty smart to go to big name schools, unless he is a mega-talent.

Naviance was pretty accurate for my kid. He even got into colleges where there was no hope…so I say, that even if chances may be slim you never know! Fingers crossed and apply.

Did you list an intended major? That can make a difference at Purdue. For instance, if you listed engineering or pre-pharmacy, then you would not have a good chance. If you listed agriculture, it is more possible.
I also recommend applying to ISU and the local satellite colleges for IU and Purdue, assuming that you are in state. In my local area, kids with your stats and good ECs are regularly rejected from Purdue and IU. Are you at a rigorous private school or Top 100 public school, or is it a typical Indiana public school?
