can he transfer??

Alright, so my boyfriend just put in his transfer application to Northeastern University for Spring transfer '08, architecture major. His high school GPA is a 2.3
ACT 28, and the one and only AP class he took was Environmental Science
and he got a 4. He has a few honors classes, and he went a prestigious
private prep school in az. He's got a lot of community service both in the US and in latin america, and he was both extremely involved in and the president of tech theater for the last two years. Over the summer he interned at a well known architecture firm in az and one of his recommendations came from the owner of the firm. Right now he's at the school of the art
institute of chicago. It's a well known art school, but they don't have the classes he wants, the students are apathetic, the teachers are horrid, and he's just generally miserable there. This school does not believe in grades so he doesn't have a college gpa He won't be allowed to meet with his academic advisor or his counselor until december, so the forms they filled out were pointlessly checked "no basis for recommendation". What are his chances of getting into Northeastern?
He desperately wants to go there and his essay is pretty good.
Any and all advice is appreciated!

You probably shouldn't post the same thread in THREE different forums...

His high school GPA is way lower than the average at NU, and without a college GPA I feel like academically, it's a big stretch. But the school also likes students with unique ECs and unusual backgrounds, so that'll help. Make sure he expresses how much he wants to go to the school.

Thank You. I wanted to make sure I got different points of view from different groups of people, thus the different forums.
He CAN get grades if he requests them, but he wouldn't have them until early january :( by then he'll have his decision. Another option is to apply again for fall '08 and then send his 1st semester grades by jan. 15th. He estimates that if he was given grades he would have a 3.7 GPA but then again, it's an art school and the majority of his classes aren't considered truly academic.
