I got a 5 on the AP Calc AB test in my junior year. However, I got a 590 on the math portion of the SAT and a 640 on the SAT Math II exam.

Also, I received a 5 on the APUSH test but only a 660 on the SAT USH test and 620 on the writing portion of the SAT. My SAT essay score was a 5.

My CR score is only a 490 but I'm taking AP Lang as a senior. I'm a white female and I want to be an engineer at MIT, Cal Tech, Harvey Mudd, or Princeton. Can high AP scores offset low SAT and SATII scores?

Lol I truly wished it worked like that, I too got a 5 on AB Calc but colleges don’t use the sat for the sake of testing if you can do math, it’s just a test that everyone has to take so they can compare evenly. Calculus will not help you at all on the math section, you just gotta practice sat math. Math 2 sat is basically pre Calc but I only got a 670. Most colleges don’t even consider ap scores for admission. If you want to be considered for those schools you need I get into the 770-800 range.

Good luck !

nope, sorry but the AP scores are probably the least weighted out of all those scores. It’s kinda stupid, but yeah the SAT score is definitely the most heavily weighted and if you don’t do decent on that, and on the SAT II’s, you probably won’t be able to get into those top colleges- unless you’re a recruit of something…

would high SAT 2’s offset AP test scores? and I thought AP scores had a lot of weight because so many people do tons of them

Actually AP scores are not weighted heavily in admissions. Students take AP
courses in order to demonstrate rigor and challenge. In some cases, they may get college credits. That’s about it however.

Two 5s are nothing to sneeze at, but personally I don’t think it’d be fair if AP scores were highly weighted, as you really only get one shot to take them, so it’d be even more biased towards students who can work well under high pressure and who can afford study materials than it already is.

AP Score’s are not even required for admissions.

And no, they can’t offset poor SAT/SATII scores.

You don’t have a prayer at MIT, Caltech, Harvey Mudd, and Princeton with those test scores.

Stanford actually does recommend that people submit AP scores - check their website. In that case, AP scores could offset a low SAT II score.

You need to retake the SAT for a better chance with those schools.
