I'm def. bombing my Math 100+ class this semester, which would have been the last class I needed to complete my IGETC.

As of right now i'm assuming I need the IGETC completed to go the UC of my choice...but like I mentioned, math is killing me.

I've been accepted to UCLA, UCI, UCSD, UCSB....

Any help at all?

Do all these school's require IGETC certification?

I mean, one math class right? lol. ahh!

But seriously, any advice is seriously, honestly appreciated.

The only school that seems to REQUIRE it is UCB…and UCLA in so competitive it practically does. however UCI and UCSD does not require you being certified and they would be most lenient of the four you listed to accept you with out the course, unless it is a part of your major.

source:

in the same situation and the only school I am having trouble with is UCB

Hey Paniikd,

This is all very interesting. I got an email response from UCLA earlier today and they said that they don’t need IGETC certification… The only thing is that if I listed I was going to take Math 100+ for this Spring (which I did) I must change it in that update form online. (I haven’t done this yet as i’m still in the class and am going to speak with a counselor tomorrow for more clarification)

UCB didn’t accept me; as for UCLA, that’s the email I got today.

I had no idea UCI & UCSD didn’t need IGETC certification. Where did you hear this from?

What’s your situation? Math req too?

A big concern for me now is…

…as you say, UCI and UCSD don’t require IGETC certification (& lets say UCLA might be somewhat lenient too), well…it’s too late at my CCC to drop my Math 100+ course with a “W”, meaning i’ll have to take the “F”; now won’t that look bad to either UCI, UCSD or UCLA, even though i’ve been accepted?

Maybe my mind just keeps finding avenues to freak out over, but thats what i’m currently thinking about.

I guess it depends on your terms of admission. A lot of times and F means you get rescinded

for UCLA you definitely need to have the math portion of the IGETC complete by SPRING 2010.

This is all very interesting yet i’m freaking out over here:

Its sounds right that UCLA would want you to complete everything, though that email did tell me I didn’t need to be IGETC certified. Also, I’m hoping that a counselor at my CCC would pull his magic and let me drop my math class with a “W” or without so I can go to UCSD or UCI.

The whole “F” thing you mentioned ShellBell is only gonna freak me out more; as i’m assuming this is UC wide and not just for UCLA or CAL.

I think an “F” would look bad. If anything literally get on your hands and knees and beg your professor for a little help and/or extra credit to bring you to a “C”. If you cannot drop the class and get a “W”, then dont.

It seems then that you will fail to be certified by this semester either way. I say just contact all the schools you were accepted to detailing your situation and explain why this has happened. Stay in the class and do your best, try to get exception grades in all your other classes this semester.

If you are a competitive candidate and have a high GPA, etc. then they might be more willing to let this slide and/or give you some options on how to solve the issue. However, there really is no telling what each school will do. I got accepted to UCSD and UCD and UCB. I am missing a science class that would make me certified. Both UCSD and UCD told me that being certified was just a high recommendation but not a requirement. UCB said that is is required.

Of course, this also has to do with your major. I am a history major and the science class I ammissing is not related, so maybe thats why it didnt matter much for me.

Just contact the schools and drown them in questions!

Good luck!
