Unfortunately I was not accepted into Maryland. This obviously hurts a ton since this school was my top choice school. Do you think that I could try to appeal to Maryland to see if they could offer me admission for the Spring 2014 semester? What do you think would happen if I tried this?

They don’t usually overturn decisions. You have a right to appeal, but prepare yourself for nothing to change. Sorry.

FutureDoctor31, I’m sorry you didn’t get a seat, but that doesn’t mean you won’t do great things wherever you choose to go to college. It probably is not worthwhile to appeal the decision unless you believe that there was a mistake made that would make a significant difference in your application.

Good luck.

You could always do well freshman year and transfer in.

If you get a 3.5+ you would have a good chance for admittance since the SAT is no longer taken into account once an applicant has over 30 credits.

futuredoctor31: Got rejected too. Probably was my 1700 SAT and that applied to engineering. I would honestly just move on.

You probably have or will get into some other excellent schools, so look forward to that and don’t waste time on negative energy. My older child went to “safety school” but took advantage of lots of opportunities and came out with a high GPA and great resume. Good luck!

Thanks for your responses everybody! I feel better now and am starting to look at my other options. For example, I have became so enamored with UMD that I’ve almost forgotten that I was accepted into Penn State with scholarships. I’ll find a way to cope, but thanks for your help everybody! I appreciate it. And good luck to all you future Terps and parents of Terms :)

^FutureDoctor31…I am sad for you that you did not get into a school that you were really excited about. If I could give you my D’s Spring 2014 acceptance spot I would. She most likely will cross UMD off her list because she didn’t get fall admit, and because she still has her heart set on other schools that she hasn’t heard back from yet. Best of luck to you wherever you wind up :)

futuredoctor-sorry about the decision. My D got into Spring 2014 but it actually feels like a rejection. She was not offered her major, but was accepted into Letters and Sciences. We are crossing UMD off the list. She got accepted to Penn State and JMU which are great schools. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your support everyone! I called UMD today and have decided to appeal. All I really have to appeal with is excellent 1st semester grades and a dramatic rise in my CR score on the SAT. I managed to raise it from a 480 to a 620 in November; therefore my superstore would be a 1060 (M:440;CR:620). Would it help if I sent in an extra teacher recommendation? Thanks again for your support everyone! :)
