I got the worse gout attack since July 5th, went to the doctor and got medicine for it. Got a bit better, but I still can’t walk on my own, so I’m in a wheelchair. It’s been a month now, and the semester starts in 3 weeks. My college is 4 hours away from home and everything is already set up long before this gout problem happen. I’m afraid that I won’t be heal up in time to move into my dorm or began my fall semester there. So, I am thinking about just canceling everything.
Will I be charge for anything, especially for the dorm room because I already signed the contract?
You can always cancel, but the question might be what type of deposit you’ll lose.
Call the school, tell them your issue, and request to defer until spring if you think that will give you more time to recover. I think (hope) your school will be sympathetic. At the very least, tell them you’ll need accommodations (wheelchair room, transportation across campus, maybe rearrange classes to make them all wheelchair accessible).
Good luck.
I would definitely call the school and ask them. I would expect them to be sympathetic since you have a health issue, but I am not sure whether you will lose a deposit.
The only people that I know who had gout had a diet issue. They changed their diet and it cleared up. However, I don’t recall how long it took to clear up and of course your case might be entirely different.
You could ask to defer your enrolment to spring semester, with medical documentation.
