I would be a fantastic applicant for Northeastern:
3.98 UW, 5.05 W
2240 SAT with my second SAT scores coming in soon.
Moderate to excellent EC's
13 years of Spanish Immersion
Band for 7 years, placing in auditions consistently.
My essays are phenomenal.
Rigorous classes- all honors and 10 APs
7 of 561 kids in senior class.
National Merit Semi finalist and maybe a finalist.
Because of national merit, I would very much like to go to this great university with at least 30K guaranteed.
Problem:
The high school class requirements.
I have taken two honors science labs, and two honors science courses. However, northeastern requires 3 science courses.
I would have taken more, but AP Sciences are the only ones left to take, and they are all double blocked.
I bet they would accept me because of my qualifications, but I worry that this problem may disqualify me for the national merit scholarship.
Would it?
On a related note: who thinks AP Computer Science could be counted as a science course?

I think their willingness to be flexible would depend on what you plan to study. (If you’re looking to go into the sciences, this would be problematic.) I would contact admissions, though, and see if they can provide you with any guidance, because otherwise you seem like a fantastic applicant.

Why is it that you only ended up taking 2 science courses? I would have expected it is typical to take a class freshman, sophomore, and junior year, which would put you at 3 without taking a course your senior year.

I took four science courses: Earth/environmental, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
They require 2 lab courses in addition to the 3 science courses, and two of my four science classes were labs.
But yeah, thanks for the advice. I suppose I will call them.

Don’t know where you got your information from - the admissions page says this:

The most competitive applicants will have completed 4 years of English, math and science in addition to foreign language, history, social sciences and the arts.

Sounds like you have 4 years of science which is all they ask for.

I’m not sure what you’re worried about, then. You have four science classes. Are you worried because none of them are AP courses and only 2 were honors?

They were all honors, but I see my error now.
They require 3 sciences, two of which need to be labs. In good!

Yup, you’re good to go. Don’t worry. If you end up being a merit finalist, they may even pay for you to visit the campus and have dinner with the faculty. Wine and dining (w/o the wine of course, this is America unfortunately).

Are you referring to University Scholars? That’s not directly related to national merit.
