Can i get in EA OOS? Robertson?

Hi everyone. I applied EA, and i live in St. Louis

What do you all think my chances are for UNC oos and the Robertson? I AM doing the scholarship forms, and am sending my second essay to my counselor today to have it reviewed before submitting monday.

-Class Rank: My school doesn't rank, but does deciles. I hope Ill be in the first one (top 10%) but its a competitive public school (of about 250 in the class)
with an excellent reputation
-GPA: 3.9/4.3, on which an A (93-97)=4.0 and A+(98+)=4.3. Its an unweighted scale. No idea what i have weighted. I've been in all honors classes throughout high school, except English I my freshman year.

-ACT: 35 (36 math, 35 english, 36 reading, 34 science), 12 writing
-SAT II: 780 Biology M, 780 Math II, 790 Us History

CLASSES

OTHER
-Essays: really good. Not frilly and complex but very straightforward and honest.
-Teacher Rec: one GREAT (the teacher the History award was named after), and one good
-My counselor loves me
-Interviews: Tufts, WashU, Dartmouth (I sent my apps really early to all my schools except Penn and Brown)
-My dad is on faculty at WashU and i have the employee tuition benefit (free tution, 1/2 tution to all other schools, which makes UNC just as cheap as Wash U!). He is also a Brown grad and worked there 13 years.
-I moved in the middle of my freshman year (it was accompanied by a dip in my grades), but I am NOT writing an essay about it.

Just let me know your opinions. Thanks Everyone!

sorry the interviews thing is irrelevant, left over from a previous post

If you are indeed top 10% in your class, I think you’ll get in EA. You haven’t really listed any particularly impressive leadership though, so I think the Robertson is a longer shot.

^^i agree with luxlibertas. make sure you’re in the top 10% of your class. if you want the robertson, consider adopting 45 infant orphans from cambodia and bottle-feeding them individually in a nurturing facility you’ve erected by hand in your backyard…

i’m exaggerating, but robertson scholars generally have a lot of strong and unique community service and leadership.

well i got the orphans but then i ran out of bottles :stuck_out_tongue:
jk but thats what i thought about the robertson. as long as i get into UNC ill be happy enough

Haha we’re so similar… you have better stats (not by a ton, but still significant) than me with score wise. I’m a NM Semifinalist though (hopefully finalist). But who knows… hopefully we both get in!

I’m going for Robertson to… I came to my current school sophomore year because I had been awarded a scholarship focused on leadership, so I’m hoping that that helps show along with some of my EC’s and stuff that I am a leader, and will help. But seriously, looking at all the profiles of the Robertson kids for the last few years, they’ve all done something big. There’s been at least one StL person the last few years, maybe there will be two this year :)

well the robertson is in, and i have little faith based on how competitive it is. so im just hoping for the EA, as i know robertson is a LONGGG shot. chances still?

The Morehead was actually created to attract “leaders” to UNC and Leadership is the first of the four founding criteria for qualification. Since you apparently don’t attend a nominating school it would be up to admissions to recommend you to the Morehead Foundation for consideration. I don’t know how that works now that they have excluded people from applying for both. You might see if your college counselor can either put you in touch with the regional admissions rep for UNC to ask that question or have the CC ask it on your behalf.

once robertson makes the selection, they will crosscheck your name on morehead list, and will contact you about your preference. they will not both advance you to finalist.

Just wondering, what was the question you thought I was asking?

But for some info–Yes, I don’t attend a nominating school. I had looked into the Morehead, and was in touch with a head of the Morehead Acceptance, who was owrking with my counselor to help us be able to nominate me, but then decided to go for the Robertson.

^^hm…i think you probably had a better chance for the morehead, to be honest…

I concur with leah…that is the point I was trying to make as well.

Being the parent of a former Morehead whose best friend since orientation and roommate for several years was a Robertson, I have a bit of insight about what Moreheads “look like” on paper and in person.

I actually thought you looked like an excellent Morehead candidate especially since you had the cross country on your resume which would cover the “physical vigor” portion of the four criteria that determine selection.

I wish you had posted all this and asked about the two scholarships earlier on because we might have been able to steer you in a different direction. I’m NOT saying you are a bad Robertson candidate but with the leadership you mention and everything else, at least to me you look like a good fit to be a Morehead candidate.

Good luck!
