I am incoming senior (female) living in Pennsylvania with a 3.82 unweighted and a 4.17 weighted GPA. I have taken 3 AP classes so far, and 4 AP tests scoring 4’s and 5’s. After senior year I will have 9 AP tests, maybe 10. I scored a 29 on my ACT and am going to take it two more times after I finish my prep course, with the hopes of scoring a 32-33. I am in National Honors Society, an editor for the yearbook, and president of our Humanitarian Club. I have been involved with the academic team for 3 years, Humanitarian Club for 4, Yearbook for 3, and our school’s newspaper for 2 years. I am an ordained deacon at my church and have participated in 3 mission trips, and have almost 300 hours of community service. What are my chances of getting into the aforementioned universities? And do I have shot at their honors programs or any financial aid/scholarships?
I am also looking at George Mason, Georgetown, Boston University, Syracuse, and University of Maryland?
27-31 - middle 50% for George Washington
26-30 - middle 50% for American
So, you are right on 50% for GW and toward the upper half for American.
Your combination of GPA and ACT scores also puts you right in the middle of the pack for both schools, so a match.
You can still be denied to a match school, but they are definitely both matches for you. If you get a 31 or higher on the ACT, I think American is then a safety for you and GW is almost that. Have to keep the grades strong your senior year though…all Bs could sink it for you. Good luck.
I would say that you have a really good shot, however, I think you should retake the ACT just to see what happens. it will solidify your chances at both of the schools, and maybe even merit scholarship money! I wish you the best of luck! I am actually looking at both those schools too You are an excellent candidate, I hope you get into both!
I also, stupidly, forgot to mention that American is my first choice and I have been passionate about the University since middle school, visiting it this past fall. I have been browsing American forums and interest has been highlighted as essential for acceptance.
