I'm a senior applying early admission this year

unweighted gpa - 3.1
weighted - 4.1
All honors courses
7 APs by the time i graduate
highest ACT - 33
40 service hours that were mandatory
Ethnicity: not white
Highschool doesn't rank
In-state

no sports or clubs or anything. ik it was stupid of me but its too late now …please help! i’m getting worried and i just wanna know

You did 40 hours of service-that’s one
your ACT is 33-so that’s good

But, getting into the colleges is competitive and when there is someone with similar scores but multiple ec’s, the committees tend to go for the “well-rounded” students.

You don’t say what you’re applying for. Your GPA is pretty low. Your ACT is great, but raises the question of why your GPA isn’t similarly high. ExtraCurriculars help, and you do have the 40 service hours, so that’s something.

You still have a couple of mos. before application time. Why not get out there and get involved in something right now. It’s a new semester. Clubs are looking for members. It may seem somewhat of a “last minute” attempt to bolster your “vitae,” but I think good intentions, hwvr. late, have merit.

I seem to recall that one essay question on the application deals specifically with a single important extracurricular. I think you’ll need to hurry up and find something significant enough to write about.

You probably won’t get in to engineering or computer science

i’m probably going to apply to the div of genera studies, but i was wondering my chances for the other departments because i don’t know.

ik colleges are looking for well rounded people, but specifically, i was wondering about u of i. ive heard that since its a state school they look at grades and ACTs and don’t care very much about anything else… is that true?

If you attend one of their information sessions you will hear them say they look at the whole application and are looking for students who are involved. They are not admitting you on your stats only. With your impressive ACT score you definitely have a very good shot getting in through DGS. I would agree engineering would be tough as well as the business school. Goodluck.

If they are going to offer you DGS, they will do that regardless of what college you apply to. If you have any idea what you want to do, apply there. If admitted, you’re in. No need to worry about having to transfer in after freshman, or sophomore year. If you don’t get into your first choice college, you still have the same chances of getting accepted to DGS. No one here can really tell you exactly what you’re chances of acceptance are if you apply to a particular college. If you don’t apply to a specific program, your chances are exactly zero, however.
