If you think it is a reach, is there any seletions to colleges where I would recieve good financial help?

bbuuummmppp

You don’t need to take the SAT. The ACT fulfills that requirement. As a public U, you will get nothing more than federal aid that will come nowhere near paying for UMich. UVA is an anomaly in that they offer to meet need even for OOS students. As far as the other schools you ask about, those are all big reaches. Being hispanic will help you but probably not that much.

Take a look at the midwestern LACs (Grinnell, Carleton, Oberlin, Macalester). Grinnell, in particular, offers excellent financial and merit aid, and yes, being hispanic makes a difference at all of these schools, where you are an underrepresented minority (URM). At Grinnell, the ACT is sufficient.

Other Grinnell pluses: No distribution requirements, no class larger than 25 students, amazing facilities, a huge endowment and lots of faculty mentoring. If you are interested in sciences, they are especially strong in that area. S loves the unpretentious, understated, intellectual and quirky vibe. And since 85% of the students receive financial aid, you will not be surrounded by kids who take money for granted.

Take UMich off your list…they won’t help you with aid for their high OOS costs.

Your other top schools will if you get in. But, your ACT is not that high for those schools.

You may need some financial safety schools…I don’t know if MiamiU or OSU will meet need.

Villanova, Holy Cross.

Do you giys think I will get into the colleges stated?

You have a solid shot at them all.

Your chances for schools like Vandy, BC, Emory and Rice are modest. If you were a male URM, your chances would be a bit better.

You need financial safety schools.

Also, apply to Mt Holyoke…they give great aid.

why is being a male better?

Because there are fewer male URMs with good stats.

What are your financial safety schools?

Those are schools that you KNOW FOR SURE that you have funding for.

Look at Tulane

Tulane is possible, but I don’t know it if meets need.

Admission is iffy with an ACT 29

mid 50 range
ACT Composite: 29 - 32

I think you have a chance at all your colleges. Your safeties seem sound.

Affirmative action has shifted to men with the prominence of women. It is now a very slight advantage to be male and a huge advantage if you’re an URM male.

If i raise it to a 30 (which i am still waiting for my results) do you think I will have a better chance?
