Can I get into a CSU with a D in algebra 2?

Hey guys,
I’m currently a Junior in high school. Last year , I earned my first D ever in the second semester of algebra 2 (I passed with a B the first semester). I am currently taking AP statistics. If I do good in AP stats this year, will that validate the D I earned? I read that passing Pre-Cal or Trig? (Not sure if it was Trig- but it was some other math class) will validate the D. But will AP Stats also? I have yet to take the SAT or ACT. If I perform well on both of those exams will that also help? I took 2 AP classes last year, currently taking 3 this year, and generally get good grades. I ended my freshman year with a 3.5 GPA, and ended last year with a 3.3. I currently want to go to SF State, or CSU East Bay. Thank you so much!!

AP Stats will validate the D in Algebra 2 based on the UC validation matrix, however if you do not repeat the semester, the D will be calculated into your CSU/UC GPA. https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

See page 18 for Math validation matrix.

CSU East Bay is a non-impacted campus so you should have no problem getting an acceptance but depending upon which major you plan to pursue, SFSU is not a definite match.

The CSU’s use the eligibility index to rank applicants by major. The EI calculation includes your CSU GPA and SAT (Math+CR score) or ACT composite score. If you get a high SAT/ACT score, this can offset a lower GPA.

Absolutely!

If I understand this correctly, a student who repeats the same class class after getting a D will get the new grade in the admissions calculation and the D will not be factored in?

Correct to the above statement ^^^ but UC’s still require that you self-report the D while CSU’s only require you report the repeat grade.

Thanks, Gumbymom!
