So, im going to be a senior in 6 weeks. My gpa sucks. Can I get into Uc santa cruz, santa Barbra, Irvine, or Davis? I dont really want to go to Riverside.
Sophomore gpa: 2.45
Junior gpa: 4.0
Sat: 1950. I have 0 AP courses, however this year im going to be in AP Calculus, AP physics, and AP computer science.
Also, I live in California, Ive been on the academic decathlon for 2 years, as well as track for one year. I have 200 community service hours

Can I get in anywhere?? I really want to go to Irvine, Santa Cruz, or Santa Barbra

Wow–well, that upward trend in GPA is really good. A jump from 2.45 to 4.0 whether or not that’s weighted in any way will look good. Boost that SAT at least 100 points and you’ll look good there. If you have really good EC’s you may have a shot.

Davis: high reach
Santa Cruz: reach
Irvine: reach
santa barbara: reach

…just for the hell of it:
Riverside: low reach
Merced: low reach

Not sure about UCSB, as I haven’t really researched it as much as the others, but I think as getting an edge on the competition (and this goes for pretty much any UC or school for that matter) is to write your essays about your upward trend, specifically a) what may have caused the low GPA in the first place and b) what got you to raise it so much.
As for Boulder, I have no idea. Probably. We only visited Colorado College.

UC’s were VERY competitive last year…UCLA had 90,000 apps. for 5000 spots! They are taking out-of-state and foreign kids who can pay full ride! My son is going to UCSC, but my other son is paying LESS to go to a private college. Have you tried looking into private schools? They can give a lot of money!

why you discriminatin’ my school huh huh!!! highlander pride errdayy! ha, anyways, regarding your question, i was never in a decathlon, had tons of community service, had like 11&something sat score, 16 in the act, & a 3.0 gpa, oh & i only took 1 ap course in my whole high school life, didn’t pass the test (i had a 2) but got an A in the class, i was only in a sport for 1 yr, but i was well rounded besides my low scores…oh & my personal statement, i did it the night before with only 750 words total i believe & got into UCR & UCSC, but chose ucr because it was more nearer towards where i live, & i dont regret choosing ucr at all!!

oh & i had friends with 3.7, 3.8, 4.0, 4.something gpas, high sat scores etc & could only get into uc merced!! got rejected by all others! i also had other friends who got into the top notch uc’s but chose lower tiere uc’s because they were cheaper e.g. ucr(:

p.s. i’m now going to become a sophomore at ucr
