My bad grades are mostly because of my attendance; it was horrible. Some teachers automatically fail you once you’ve missed so many days, and that’s what happened to me more than once. If it had not been for my poor attendance, I would probably have about a 3.3. That’s why I said I have a mixture of A’s, B’s and F’s. My attendance was bad because of the moving around and just… problems, to say the least.

I live in Des Moines, Iowa and the SAT isn’t offered here. In order to take it I would have to drive an hour and a half to Indianola, Iowa since my mom won’t take me (she made me catch the bus 5 miles to take the ACT). I don’t have a car.

I dont understand, how can you live in a homeless shelter when your mom gets remarried? I mean shouldnt they get like an apartment when they get married?

I was living in a homeless shelter for most of my Freshman year, then we moved into assisted living (projects) for the last, like, month. That was the same year my dad and grandmother died.

Does modeling count as an extra-curricular activity? I’ve been doing it for a while now and I recently got an offer from Elite model management. Does that look good on college resumes? I know it doesn’t take much brain work, but it’s something I really enjoy.

My only fear is that if I take up the offer from Elite, I won’t have enough time for school. And school is important.

I really don’t want to shorten it though. I had an English teacher edit it for me and he said that my writing skills were incredible, and that they show in that essay. I want the admissions officers to see that.

It’s long because I wrote about my entire high school experience (troubling events, inspiring people, etc.)… and basically everything that explains my GPA.

There are many open admission community colleges which accept pretty much anybody with a high school diploma. You could apply to one and then if you do well transfer to a university.

Collegeboss, that was pretty ignorant. If you had actually READ through the topic instead of looking at the title and laughing (that would’ve been ok if you hadn’t clicked to reply BEFORE you read the OP’s situation), you probably wouldn’t be hyucking it up.

The guy is in a serious pickle. He’s had the death of multiple family members to deal with, and yet has still triumphed and not fallen victim to the education system. He’s got amazing extracurriculars and life experiences under his belt, to boot, and has just as much of a right to deserve a four-year college as anyone else.

Your advice, joking or not, is terrible. And you’re laughing at his misfortune for ‘only’ having a C average at the end of high school, you’re actually making yourself look like a D-bag, b/c believe it or not, some school is gonna take this kid. That’s first of all. Second, he doesn’t need to go to a CC. He did great in HS, given his circumstances.
Lastly, he seems like a cool guy… a lot cooler than the rest of the type-A overachievers that live on this site. If you’re really a college boss, he’ll probably end up sleeping with your daughter the first week on campus. lol.

…Now I remember why I took a two-year break from this site. What an excellent second post to read on my first back from my hiatus.

INeedAssistance, it does indeed count as an EC… and a good one at that, but, if its gonna take time away from school… I would rethink it. Remember your priorities and decide what’s most important.
