My sat scores are: Math:680 Writing:700 Reading:750. My gpa is a 4.0 and i take all ap's and honors and have very good extracurricular and sports. I know my scores may be a little low but I wanted to know how my chances looked for cornell arts and sciences. Thanks for the feedback!

1430 is OK but the 680 math is problematic, I’d suggest that you take the ACT, where only total score is considered.

Thanks for the info, im taking the sats again soon so would cornell look favorably on a better math score or will they still consider my first one?

It depends on a lot more than just simple SATs and grades (what are your AP scores and your ranking within your class? What’s your class’s history of landing people in Cornell)? And most importantly, what are your ECs?
In terms of SATs, it’s definitely on the lower end but if you are spectacular on other aspects then you have a shot.

There are plenty of people who get into A&S with 680 in math, even for engineering. It is really more than just test scores. ACT is very different than SAT. You will need SAT subject tests for A&S. Since Cornell does not participate in score choice, they will see ALL of your SAT scores, including your SAT I scores. Don’t bother with ACT. I would retake SAT I again if you are concerned about 680, but I wouldn’t.

The 25th percentile math score for engineering last year was a 730…I really don’t see how you could say “plenty” of people get into engineering with a 680 in math.

It helps if you are a woman. I have 2 daughters, one graduated and one is entering.

You have a decent chance :)

I believe that 680 is near or below the 25th percentile for CAS. With a 750 CR score I would think you’d do very well on the ACT, where 2/3 of the test relies heavily on reading comprehension. As everyone else has said, Test scores are just a part of it, however you don’t want any part of your profile to be reason for pause.

Your scores are in range and if you have a 4.0 with a rigorous schedule, that puts you ahead of most applicants. I don’t see the 680 is all that problematic if the rest of your application is solid. Does it help? No, but it’s not really a negative either. Now, is your 4.0 GPA weighted or unweighted? If unweighted, how does it compare to peers in your class? Even if your school doesn’t rank, Cornell will have a VERY good idea of where you fall. Does your school have a history of sending people to Cornell? If so, how do you compare?

Its weighted. My school actually has a good history with sending students to the arts and science school for cornell

If that’s the case and you compare favorably to those from your school who have attended, your chances are good. Cornell seems to give advantages to students to schools it’s familiar with because admissions knows students from your school are high quality.

If it’s weighted then your UW is probably around 3.6? If that’s the case, your GPA is a bit low.
