Can I get into MIT and/or GA Tech with these scores?

Hey guys!
I just finished up Junior Year of high school and ended up with a 3.83 GPA which in my opinion, is pretty bad. I had one B and rest A’s in Freshmen and Junior Year but in Sophomore year, I had 4 B’s, which was my worst year, because I did not take school that seriously. Overall, I am an A- student.

I have taken pretty much all honors and 5 AP’s so far. I should have 11 AP’s by end of next year however.

I got a 1560 on the SAT however. I do plan to retake it later and try to get a perfect score (or close). My ACT is 35.

I’m doing a bunch of Extracurricular activities…

Finally, lets say I have good recommendation letters and essays.

With all that being said, how well are my chances of getting into MIT? Thanks guys! Be as brutally honest as you can be!

Also, if you guys could check, how are my chances for a more easier school like Georgia Tech? :smiley:

I’d say your odds are about average for MIT. So… about 7%.

GA Tech is not much easier to get into. They turned down in-state students with 36 ACTs and high GPAs this year. Build a solid list of matches & safeties in addition to a few reaches like these.

If you were female your odds of getting into Georgia Tech would be much higher. They really spread it out this year in order to balance their imbalance in male/female.

Your stats are fine. Get As first semester senior year. You don’t need to retake the SAT or ACT as those are great scores. Consider taking SAT subject tests in areas you are good at

Can = yes
Will = 6.7% chance

Insufficient information.

Also, Georgia Tech considers residency. Without state residency, one’s chances for admission are diminished significantly.

It also depends what math and science courses you have taken. Much harder to get in to GT without BC Calculus at minimum. Presuming GT is relatively easy to get into is a big mistake. MIT is unlikely as their admit rate is like winning the lottery. I don’t think higher scores than what you have will make any difference as your scores are excellent. You need other schools on your list.
