Can I get into the University of Florida?

I’m a 16 year old girl in 11th grade. I’m from Illinois. I moved to Georgia my sophomore year. I want to go to school in either Illinois, georgia, or Florida. I don’t think I’m qualified for UF. My grades in 9th was 5 A’s and 2 B’s but they were regular classes. When I moved to Georgia in 10th grade I was unhappy, lonely, and homesick. My grades were terrible. I took to honor classes and the rest regular. 1st semester I had two C’s, two A’s, and 3 B’s. Second semester I had 4 A’s, 2 B’s and 1 C. Now I’m a junior. I’m taking 1 Ap class and 1 honors. 1st semester I had 1 c, 3 B’s and 3 A’s. I have a 3.4 cumulative GPA. I know it’s not good enough. I’m not in many extracurricular activities. I’m in HOSA ( Health Occupations Students of America) I’m in rotc and was on the unarmed exhibition drill team. And I was inducted into Kitty Hawk Air Honors Society in rotc…I really don’t think this is good enough for UF but I want to go to school in Florida. I’m trying to get a 3.6 by the end of my second semester of junior year that I’m in right now.so far I have all A’s. Do I have a chance or should I just stop? Also do colleges look at senior year classes? I chose my classes which are statistics, Ap English, Ap psychology, Ap physics, economics, business and communications, and 3rd year rotc. I’m sorry for the grammar mistakes. If I’m not good enough for UF, what schools do you recommend? I really want to go to a that has a high rank like UF…I really believe if I didn’t move to Georgia I would have had better grades.

I would say you still can work towards going to UF! Study real hard and take the ACT or SAT. I’d say focus on those scores since your GPA won’t be what’s setting you apart. If you can get an exceptional score, then you have a shot! Also, work on extra curricular activities and volunteering, such as volunteering at a hospital, animal shelter, etc. Schools like to see that you are capable of long term commitments, so it would definitely benefit you to start immediately. I have taken the ACT, and it’s really just a strategical test. I don’t have experience with the SAT, but the ACT is easy to improve on, it just requires studying and a lot of practice. If you’re willing to put the work in, I think you will have a shot. And yes, colleges do look at your senior year schedule to see if you are challenging yourself. By the looks of your AP classes, you will not disappoint

Good luck!

The website says the middle applicants had a GPA of 4.1-4.5 and an ACT score of 27-31, but it also said students are not admitted purely for merit. That means that your essays and recommendations will have to be pretty stellar and you’ll have to score a high ACT score, but even then you might not be competitive enough. Have backups just in case, and remember that wherever you end up, it’s in God’s plan and it will turn out wonderful

Don’t stop! To answer your question whether colleges look at your senior year grades, YES. I know some people who decided to slack off in the first semester, but some schools have a tendency to ask for first quarter or first semester grades (I’d go and double check or call the admissions office when the time comes); I’m not sure if UF requires them, but it’s a good indicator to schools to show you’re still holding consistently good grades and/or improving from junior year. Like madmik mentioned, I suggest you work on extracurriculars too along with grades. It’d definitely be a help, and if not already, to start studying or set up a study plan for the SATs or ACT! The fact that you’re taking AP courses with all A’s shows you’re off to a great start.
