I educated a 9 year old autistic child for a year on my own time twice a week. I taught him how to speak correctly, write, think and express himself. Over the year, his family saw improvement, and I am very proud of this.

My GPA is low because my family (single mom, father committed suicide) went through a financial crisis and we were almost homeless for a while. Sometimes I did my homework in our car full of newspapers, where I slept for several months.

Can I get into Berkeley? I want to do business/ filmmaking/ producing/ marketing

note: i am actually a junior, but these stats are what I am projected to end up with.

what could i improve from this list? i have time!

yes, u can....i say its a match school for u....and im sorry about ur dad :(

Have you taken your subject tests? Also, is that your UC GPA? 4.2 weighted?
If it is, you've got really good chances.

Man, this is quite compelling. I think you have a great chance at uc berkeley. In my opinion, you should write an essay about your experience and how you grew stronger from it (not to sound insensitive). It's good idea and I've seen it in books.

thank you all so much for the great replies!
and about the weighted GPA, it's not UC, just regular weighted GPA. i'll be getting my UC version later. which do they consider more? does it really make a big difference to them?

I have great respect for what you've done, especially helping an autistic child to read and write. Coming from someone who has an autistic family member, it means a lot to me that there are people like you out there.

-are you a CA resident?
- just get straight A's junior year and maybe raise your SAT's 2100.

oh man...you had it worse than i did and mine was pretty bad enough

That's tough to get through, and I'm sure the Adcoms will see that you have endured through hardships and continue to make a difference.

If your UC GPA is 4.07+, you're in.

write a good essay about your life and you are in

you'll get in with that GPA + life story.
