Can I Get Into UCLA?

I’m only a sophomore, but UCLA is my dream school, although I am applying out of state from North Carolina.

My weighted GPA right now is about 4.1, but I might be able to raise it next semester. I go to a pretty rigorous private school with about 130 students per class and I am in mostly advanced classes: Adv. Algebra II/Trig, AP World History, Accelerated Chem (Does not factor +.5 into GPA), and Adv. French, with plans to take AP US History, AP French, and maybe AP Bio next year as a junior. I’m also part of the Global Studies Program which demands many required courses and additional journaling and clubs. The only standardized test I’ve taken is the PSAT which i received a 1350 out of 1520 on with the new scoring method. I was on the honor council freshman year, I’m in the guys acapella group and regularly arrange for them, am a varsity wrestler, and am in the Model UN club which I hope to become a leader in next year. I also study arabic with a private tutor outside of school and hope to maybe do a language program over the summer. I am sort of lacking in terms of my community service, although I am in the Students of Service club at my school and am starting a new community service project with my friend where we plan to teach music to disadvantaged kids, as well as going on a mission trip over the summer with my friend’s youth group. The summer before freshman year I was a national finalist in the history bee, but I don’t know if that’s worth anything. My social life, as well, is pretty demanding and I would consider myself an outgoing person. I am white and my parents are pretty wealthy as well if that is worth anything.

So, judging from those accolades, what are my chances of getting into UCLA?

Also my scores individually for the PSAT was 730/760 for the writing portion and 620/760 for the math portion.

UC’s use their own GPA calculation. Only 10-11th grades for the a-g course requirements. As an OOS applicant, you can only use AP/IB and DE courses for the extra points in the calculation (8 semesters) .The UC GPA on the link is the capped weighted GPA. UCLA will also use the uncapped weighted GPA with unlimited semesters of these courses.

These are the averages for Class 2015

UC GPA uncapped weighted for UCLA: 4.39
UC GPA capped weighted: 4.18
SAT (Math + CR): 1377 (This will be different for the new SAT)

So far you are on the right track for UCLA. Keep up the good work. Also make sure you have a year of a visual or performing art class. It is a UC requirement. See link for a-g courses:

Make sure you have the money talk with your parents and they are willing to pay $55K/year for you to attend with no financial aid.

Good luck.
