Can I get into UCSD/UCLA/UCI with these stats?

UC GPA: 4.3
Overall School GPA Unweighted (9-11): 3.9
Overall School GPA Unweighted (10-11): 4.0
SAT: 1360 (new)
No SAT Subject Tests
AP/Honors Classes:
9th Grade: Doesn’t really matter right? but Honors Geometry
10th Grade: Honors Chemistry
11th Grade: Honors PreCalculus, AP Chemistry (Got a 4)
12th Grade: AP Calc AB, AP Physics, AP Computer Science, AP German

Extracurriculars: Not Many, volunteer at a hospital for 100 hours, member of this thing called Link Crew (helping freshmen transition into high school for 1 year, member of High School Band for 9th-10th grade, volunteered at park/school events throughout high school.

Majors I hope to get into: General Biology or Biochemistry (which should I choose?)
I’m male and Asian. Thanks

You are definitely a qualified applicant. For a top school like UCLA, you probably want a higher SAT score to be more competitive.

Regarding major, choose which major you prefer. However, for UCSD, since Biology is a capped/impacted major, select Biochemistry as your alternate major.

UCLA does not consider alternate majors but UCI does.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 4.20 or above (capped weighted) and not major specific:

UCB: 42%
UCLA: 54%
UCSD: 87%
UCSB: 85%
UCD: 91%
UCI: 94%
UCR/UCM: 98%

25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:

UCB: 1280-1490

UCLA: 1280-1500
UCSD: 1250-1470
UCSB: 1290-1450
UCD: 1190-1430
UCI: 1190-1420
UCSC: 1170-1380
UCR: 1090-1310
UCM: 1020-1230

Best of luck.

Hello Gumbymom, I was wondering how many more schools I should apply to other than these three schools. I already decided to apply to: UCSD, UCLA, UCI, Cal Poly Pomona, and Cal State Long Beach. Is this enough? Which of these are my safety/reach/target schools? Thanks! You are awesome!

CPP/CSULB: Safety
UCI: Low Match-Match
UCSD: Match
UCLA: High Match-Low Reach

Like I stated above, you are very qualified applicant and potentially you could get acceptances for all the schools. I would have a few more solid Match schools on your list: Cal Poly SLO, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara and/or Santa Cruz. I also would consider San Diego state as another safety.

Any interest in private schools such as USC, Occidental, Santa Clara, Claremont Colleges?

Hi Gumbymom, my parents don’t really want me to go to private school since it costs so much and also I don’t really want to do the common app lol. Hopefully I’ll get into the three UCs that I stated before since I want to be in SoCal. I don’t really have much interest in UCSB or Cal Poly SLO though. Thanks for the advice!

UCLA: Low Reach?
UCSD: High Match
UCI: Match
CPP / CSULB - safety
You have great chances! Your GPA is high, which makes up for SAT scores. Your EC’s are basic, but hopefully you have good essays.
Then again, Bio is impacted at all these UCs…
Did you already apply? And to only these, or other schools?
If you didn’t, just throw in UCR for a solid safety, or any others, bc UCR is pretty solid for bio/premed.
Good luck

@Gumbymom what are your sources for the GPA stats? Care to attach a link? Also, I am positive that the 25th SAT for UCSB is 1210 and not 1290. Please correct that as you are misinforming people with false information.

GPA stats are from the UC info center: https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/freshman-admissions-summary

The 25th and 75th percentiles for the SAT scores are from the UC Freshman profile and you are correct the 25th percentile is 1210. I will make the correction so I do not post false information.

@sl6588: Mistake corrected

@Gumbymom you haven’t corrected it.

@sl6588: You cannot edit the list after 15 minutes. I will repost with the correct info to make you happy.
The mistake on the 25th percentile for UCSB does not change my answer or have any bearing on the original OP’s chances, since their SAT scores are within range either way.
