Can I get into UMich

Yes but with the low grades for the first two years I think they would be hesitant to admit without seeing continued improvement. So EA or ED might not be a good idea.

I agree. This poster might not want to do EA or ED because they will want to show continued strength their senior year.

I think being instate you definitely have a chance. I would definitely address the fresh/soph grades and also have your counselor address them in their report. Also, I am usually a HUGE fan of applying early, but as others have mentioned you should probably apply RD so you can submit your 1st semester grades and you will need to make sure they are very (mostly if not all A/A-).

I think that you will at best be deferred, since you only have one year of high academic achievement. I do think that you might be admitted then RD or from the waitlist if you have a straight A first semester of senior year, but you might not. If you really want to go to U Mich (and I do think that this is the most selective school that you could wind up at), you might be better off doing dual enrollment with a local community college that has a transfer agreement with U Mich. You would take a full load of community college classes next year that would double count for finishing up your high school requirements, then transfer to U Mich to start as a sophomore in sept '24. You’d get there the same time, you could spend 4 years there if you like, maybe come out with a masters, and you’d pretty much be guaranteed to get to U Mich this way. Community college classes are much easier than AP classes, so as long as you keep doing your work, you’d surely get straight A’s. If you take 6 classes and get straight A’s, which at community college is very feasible, you’d definitely demonstrate that you’re a serious student now, and I bet you’d have no trouble arranging a transfer to U Mich for Sept '24.

I would talk to your counselor at school about this. I can see applying EA knowing you are getting deferred and yes they will want to see your senior grades to midterm. Applying EA shows interest even though Michigan states it doesn’t matter.

You’ve got a shot if you apply. Many factors are outside your control- but put in the application. And make sure you apply to several schools and give yourself a range of choices. Competitive schools across the board are not guarantees - so apply to any place you think you would attend. And give yourself a few quality safety schools. It’s always good to have options. Your outlook may change in 6 months.
Your scores are excellent & your grade trend is what they(admissions people) want to see.
Good luck.

As others have mentioned, you would have a shot at Michigan, but it is by no means assured. I would be tempted to apply EA (many report that Michigan won’t give EA results until after your semester ends anyway). That way, you could always notify your admissions counselor with continued good grades at the end of each grading period, showing that the higher performance has not abated.

That said, focus on finding schools that you are extremely likely to be admitted to, that is affordable for your family, and that you would be happy to attend. Once you have some schools that meet that description, then you can start looking at schools where your chances of admission are lower. If you need any help in coming up with a list of colleges to investigate, let us know. If so, we would need to know your budget and preferences about what you want out of your college experience (including size, climate, location, vibe, desired major(s), etc).

Would I have a chance at getting into msu?

Whether you mean Michigan State or Mississippi State, I think your chances of admittance are excellent.

Michigan State due to your stats they might consider honors but they have gotten harder to get into the last 3 years
They are rolling so apply right away
